Luxury sedans are all the hype as they come with the bells and whistles one would expect from a vehicle that commands unmatched stature and position in the market. This is where Porsche’s foray with the Panamera turns out to be fruitful. Buy it in any variant you want, the Panamera reeks of opulence and is complemented well by its first-class build. However, if we were to choose one, we’d place all of our money on the GTS trim, for it coalesces performance with plushness to create a by-product that feels worth the $130,000 you end up spending on it.

The 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS is an extension of the outgoing model and with only minor updates to its infotainment system, it turns out to be both hands-on and quirky with its hi-tech features. The cabin feels lavishly appointed, however, its 4-seat configuration, causes it to face stiff competition from other luxury sedans in the segment like the 2022 BMW M850i xDrive, 2021 Audi S7, and the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 53.
Features
The GTS variant is available as a standalone trim and essentially falls under the Panamera lineup as one of the most powerful options. It gets equipped with class-leading features that include Porsche Active Suspension Management System, Apple CarPlay and Android Capability, and 20-inch satin black alloy wheels. At an expected MSRP of $130,000, though the GTS trim has performance and opulence to vaunt, however, it is highly-priced. By essentially being a carryover model, it will also receive similar optional packages with the Sport Chrono Package being the one to look out for.

We Recommend
Being a standalone trim, there is not much to recommend about the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS. We feel it is adequately equipped and with its unblotched performance, it does make for a stellar choice. However, we would suggest opting for the Sports Chrono Package for a better experience. On the larger level, however, the GTS does fall short of its competitors due to its exorbitant pricing. But if you are an ardent Porsche fan and have a deep pocket, the 2022 Panamera GTS will tick all the right boxes for you.
Release Date
Porsche is yet to officially announce a launch date for the 2022 Panamera GTS, however, we expect it to be released either in the third or fourth quarter of 2021. While scheduled timelines might differ, the sedan will only be launched shortly after the 2022 Porsche 911 starts to arrive at dealerships.
Engine and Performance
6.0/10
With no apparent changes to its powertrain setup, the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS continues to make use of a 4.0L turbocharged V8 unit to deliver blistering performance. This engine is capable of belting out 473hp and 457lb.-ft of torque and while these outputs are not the highest, they translate into best-in-class performance. You get an 8-speed automated manual in charge of the shifting duties and all the power generated is transferred to all the wheels of the sedan as standard. Given its versatile and multi-purpose engine setup that is fit for cruising on both the highways and within city limits, the performance it manages when tested is also laudable.
2022 Porsche Panamera GTS Driving View
The 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS can sprint from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds. While quarter-mile timings are not known, its top speed of 186 MPH is the highest in the segment. To keep the sedan under control even at high speeds, the Panamera GTS makes use of front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension. It also helps control the body roll and soaks in bumps, providing better stability to the sedan.

When compared to its direct competitors, the 2022 BMW M850i Gran Coupe is the only sedan that actually matches the prowess of the Porsche with its exhilarating performance and highest power and torque outputs of 523hp and 553lb.-ft. While in the straight line both manage similar timings, the top speed is where the Panamera does take a lead. On the other hand, the 2021 Audi S7 and 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 are almost a second slower, but their performance is linear and likable, thanks to a mild-hybrid assistance system installed in the sedans. This system bumps up the power outputs making the performance even more competitive.
Fuel Economy
6.0/10
The 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS’s fuel efficiency is not yet known. However, with an extremely powerful engine under the hood, that produces in excess of 400hp, we would not expect the highest level of performance in this aspect. While range is also not known, the luxury sedan from the house of Porsche sports a 23.7-gallon fuel tank, which is considerably large and will save you those additional trips to the fuel station.

In the segment, the hybrid engines of the Audi and Mercedes-AMG help improve their efficiency. Both sedans average 22 MPG, which is the highest in the segment, and are closely followed by the BMW that manages a combined efficiency of 19 MPG. However, all three contemporary sedans have smaller fuel tanks, which do affect their range and the distance that can cover in a single fuel refill. With 422 city miles and 527 highway miles, the 2022 AMG GT 53 leads the segment.
Interior
6.0/10
Perhaps the luxuriant cabin design of the 2022 Panamera GTS distinguishes it from other vehicles of the brand. However, the visual appeal still remains true to Porsche’s design and evidences the brand’s knack for tailoring cabins that do have a sporty aura to them. Comfort inside the sedan is held in the highest regard without compromising on practicality and there are abundant features to satiate the tech-savvy as well. As standard, you get Alcantara upholstery with red stitching throughout the cabin, while the steering wheel with mounted drive-mode selector gets covered in suede. The almost digitized version of the traditional fighter-jet-like central console that houses the transmission knob and aircon vents has a shiny finish to it, making it look upmarket.
2022 Porsche Panamera GTS Dashboard
At the front of the cabin, Porsche offers a set of sport seats that get power adjustability and multi-level heating functionality. There is ample space on offer and the seats feel adequately comfortable. At the rear, it is a similar story of pleasurable ride quality, thanks to a set of supportive seats that are apt for long journeys. However, our only problem that remains is that the sedan does lack an option of seating five passengers, which is partially the reason we’d prefer the Audi S7 or the BMW M850i Gran Coupe over it.
While there are cubby storage spaces inside the cabin alongside front and rear cupholders, cargo capacity is not the best in the segment. Though a trunk volume of 17.6 cubic feet feels adequately large, the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS at best can load only two luggage bags in its trunk.

When compared directly to its competitors, the 2021 Audi S7 manages to provide proportionate space in both rows alongside the largest cargo capacity of 24.6 cu.-ft, and consequently, it serves best to family-oriented buyers. The 2021 BMW M850i Gran Coupe also sports a commodious cabin however, its trunk volume does cause a bearing on its likability.
In terms of design and finish, all sedans belong to a premium brand and make use of top-notch materials to justify the hefty price tags they carry. Amongst the latest entries from Mercedes-Benz, the AMG GT 53 easily manages to win hearts with its free-flowing design and a pragmatic cabin setup. Though the same can be said about the BMW and Audi, the cabin of the AMG will appeal more to the buyers.

How intuitive is the infotainment system of the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS?
The 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS comes equipped with a largely similar infotainment system as last year. However, unlike the outgoing model, this system has better response timings and with the latest iteration, it can also support Android Auto alongside Apple CarPlay, making it all the more practical.
2022 Porsche Panamera GTS Infotainment System
A 12.3-inch display screen that sits centrally is the only way to access the infotainment features and with its crisp resolution and graphics, it remains better unchanged. The sound duties continue to be handled by a 10-speaker sound system as standard, however, you do get an option to upgrade to a Burmester surround sound system unit for some extra dollars.
Some of the salient infotainment features available with the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS include:
With design changes recently, the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS continues to uphold its adroit and ultra-nice aura in an otherwise striking and defined appearance. Though it might not look like a proper sedan with its tapering roofline and a rather hunkered-down hood, it’s larger than most of its rivals. It looks on par with its competition and the four-point LED lights at the front bear a sense of familiarity with the latest Porsche vehicles.

Look at it from the side and you realize how the long Porsche Panamera GTS actually. The 20-inch Satin Black alloy wheels add to the visual appeal and allow the car to look proportionate. At the rear end, the sloping roofline merges with the clean-looking taillights. You find the Panamera GTS at the rear just below the light strip that runs to connect the taillights.

It is also the widest option in the segment measuring 78.2 inches. However, when compared directly, the 2022 BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe is diminutively larger and sports the best-in-class ground clearance of 5 inches. The 2021 Audi S7 Prestige is the smallest sedan but its latest design looks visually appealing. The BMW has a similar design to its siblings from the brand, while the Mercedes-AMG GT with its traditional coupe-like structure brims with opulence.
Some of the standout exterior features of the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS include:
Given its high value-low volume status, the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS will not be tested by the NHTSA or IIHS. However, it gets equipped with a large number of safety features that aid its dependability. As standard, you find Porsche Side Impact Protection System, a comprehensive airbag system, and a standard rearview camera. For the smooth functioning of each usable element, Porsche also provides a comprehensive warranty policy. Some of the other standout safety features include:

2022 Porsche Panamera GTS vs 2022 BMW M850i Gran Coupe
The 2022 BMW M850i Gran Coupe presents itself as a supreme choice in the market with its jaunty engine option, lively driving experience, and a cabin that reeks of modernity. In all aspects, it is the closest competitor to the 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS. Both sedans have similar performance when tested for acceleration and while the fuel efficiency of the latter is not known, the BMW offering falls short on frugality due to its smaller fuel tank.
2022 BMW M850i Gran Three Quarter View
While there is stiff competition amongst the two in terms of cabin setup, the M850i Gran Coupe can seat five passengers against Porsche’s four-seat configuration. While the exterior design is a subjective point of contestation, the BMW bears a lower price tag which makes it a practical option.
2022 Porsche Panamera GTS vs 2021 Audi S7
The Audi S7 is the only other competitor in the segment that has been on the market for a long time. Like the Porsche Panamera GTS, it is multi-purpose and vaunts practicality in the highest regard. Though slower, the 2021 S7 cohesively unifies efficiency with performance and turns out to be a conservative option.
2021 Audi S7 Three Quarter View
The 2021 Audi S7 is commodious and has a better trunk making it a perfect fit for family hauling. With its recent updates, it looks on par with its competition and houses an extremely intuitive infotainment system, and has several safety features onboard. While the Porsche Panamera GTS is also practical and quicker, however, the higher price tag makes it rather impractical.
2022 Porsche Panamera GTS vs 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 53
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 has a refined driving character and likable performance. Its cabin has a zing to it and with the latest technology on-board, it feels hands-on and pragmatic. However, when compared to the Porsche Panamera GTS, it is slower, has almost comparable space, and sports the smallest trunk in the segment.
2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 Front View
However, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is extremely reliable and dependable. Its slew of safety features allows it to be extremely safe. It vaunts better build quality, an advanced infotainment system, and has impressive driving dynamics. Like every other competitor, it also gets a lower price tag, bestowing better value for the money spent.
Final Verdict
The 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS is an embodiment of the luxury sports sedan segment but its big-budget price tag stands in the way of its ambition of assuming top-spot in terms of sales volume. It gets a cogent engine that delivers blistering performance and continues with engaging ride quality. The cabin is finely curated and with updates to the infotainment system with the latest MY, there is not much to complain about. It still looks as modern as ever and has a comprehensive safety system at its disposal. However, it is definitely not for budget shoppers, and with a sky-high price tag, it ends up being a non-viable option against feasible offerings from BMW, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi.
