The Porsche Panamera line-up is one massive plethora of different engine options, features, wheelbases, and of course, features. The SE Hybrid sits at the top of the hierarchy with the most power on tap and the best “green” performance via the hybrid system on offer. The car comes powered by a 4.0L V8 paired to an AC motor that produces nearly 700 horsepower and 641 lb-ft of torque on tap making it one of the quickest German super sedans around. It also has all the bells and whistles that the line-up offers, along with some extras as well.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is expected to be carried over unchanged because the 2021 model year got a mild styling refresh, making it look younger than ever. This German super-sedan has no competition at the price point it comes in, but is very similarly equipped to the BMW 7-Series 745e and the Audi A8 e quattro.

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is the topmost trim in the range and comes with all the bells and whistles that one comes to expect of a sedan of this calibre. It is similarly equipped to the Turbo S and has performance upgrades like ceramic-composite brake rotors, torque-vectoring, and rear-wheel steering. This trim also adds features like a second air-conditioning system that helps to cool the car while unoccupied. The infotainment sees an upgrade in the speakers to a 14-speaker Bose audio system. That said, the standard features on offer are:

Turbo SE Hybrid

Key features

Upgraded turbocharged 4.0L V8 with E-Hybrid

Adaptive suspension

Heated front and rear seats

Panoramic sunroof

12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen

Wireless Apple CarPlay

Navigation system

Wireless charging pad

14-speaker Bose audio system

Second air-conditioning system

Rear-wheel steering

The Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid comes with a lot of technological features, but it being a Porsche, has all of them listed as extras. The German manufacturer also offers two optional packages - Premium Package ($4,190) and Assistance Package ($5,290) - that add on a myriad of tech and comfort features such as:

  • Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+)
  • Ambient Lighting Plus
  • 4-zone climate control
  • Soft close doors
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Surround View
  • Night Vision Assist

We recommend

Since the Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is the only trim in question here, we recommend spending the extra cash if you’re really into saving the environment by just that much and want a performance that puts other cars to shame on a track as well as on a drag strip. It has all the features that you may need, ever, from a car and also has solid driving dynamics that might be a bit too much for the city.

Release date

There has been no official date released by Porsche yet but as far as our estimates go, the launch should be somewhere in the Fall of 2021.

Engine and Performance

The 2022 Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid will carry over the same engine form the previous model year, which means under the hood will be the same twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 paired to an AC motor that adds 136 horsepower to the total output, making it a massive 690 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque. This output is sent to all the four wheels via Porsche’s 8-Speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) unit which ensures blistering launches and seamless shifts while overtaking or while on the track.

The car is very firm in the city due to the suspension’s setting. The sheer width of the car also makes it a bit tricky to maneuver around the tight parking spots but the light steering does help a lot. The engine feels very quiet and smooth in the city due to the electric motor doing its thing. On the highway, the switch to the gas engine is seamless and the car feels alive with a blistering pace and rock-solid stability. The cabin is very quiet and there is very low road noise, making it an ideal car for long distances as well.

The Panamera hits the performance game out of the park with visibly quick numbers and better acceleration times, along with double the power and double the price as well. Since there are no hybrids even close to the Panamera, the Bimmer and the Audi remain the last choice - and cost half of what the Panamera costs. For 6-cylinder hybrid engines, the Bimmer is the quicker one of the two with a sub 5-second 0-60 MPH run and a 13.2-second quarter-mile.

Fuel Economy

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid boasts of a hybrid system that surely helps a bit with the fuel economy. This system is also aided by the twin turbochargers as well, to make more power and to save on fuel bills simultaneously. The ETA’s estimates for the city driving stand at 19 MPG, while the highway drives have a rating of 23 MPG for a combined estimate of 21 MPG from its 21.1-gallon fuel tank. Being a hybrid, the Panamera can also run 17 miles of electric-only range which makes city driving very peaceful, while also helping in providing a strong boost on the highway.

The Panamera is as fuel-efficient as the others while also having a very similar electric-only range. The biggest tank in the competition also means that the Panamera gets the highest range among all the cars. The Bimmer’s small tank hurts the range by a lot while the Audi one-ups in terms of highway economy. Talking of the Audi, it carries a 42% bigger tank which aids a lot in the range, making it the best choice for going miles.

The interiors of the 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is as posh as it can get and uses the best quality for the price. The overall layout is very driver-centric with good feedback from the buttons. The door is finished in a nice combination of leather and wood trim, while the handles are finished in aluminium for a solid feel. The dashboard repeats the same texture and materials while also maintaining the sporty characteristics inside.

The center console is in easy reach of the driver and houses controls for various functions like the seat heating/ventilation and climate control. There is gloss black trim across the dashboard which does attract a lot of fingerprints and hinders the beautiful trim. Other than that, there is a small cubby and a couple of cup holders for extra convenience. The cubby spaces continue in the rear seats as well with multiple ports for connectivity and a small cubby in the rear console for holding a mobile phone inside it.

The seats in the Panamera feel as if they’ve been made for the track, with massive support and excellent bolstering. These seats are best used on twisty roads but are also meant to be comfortable for long drives. As for the features, these seats have power-adjustability and heating for both the rows. The rear seats are as comfortable and have a lot of space as well for comfortable seating. As for the ventilation, the front seats get them but that too as optional.

The Panamera has a hatchback liftgate that makes it very versatile, to say the least. The space inside is 17.6 cubic feet which, for the segment, is impressive and the shape of the boot lets it hold a lot of cargo as well. The cargo floor is pretty low and there are two massive cubby areas on either side for more practicality. To top it off, there is a scuff plate that prevents any scuffs or scratches while loading or unloading luggage.

Second Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Legroom; inches)

Cargo Capacity (cubic feet)

The Panamera seats one person less than the others, but the seating is very comfortable and bathed in luxurious materials. As for the space inside, the company hasn’t released any data for the dimensions but for what it is, the space is very comfortable but the headroom is a bit compromised due to the shape of the roof. The Bimmer gets the best cabin space with massive headroom and respectable legroom in both the rows, one-upping the Audi as well. The cargo space in the Panamera is good for a weekend’s worth of trip. That said, some highlighting features are:

  • 8-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated seats (front and rear)
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Ventilated rear seats (optional)
  • Integrated headrests (front and rear)
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Interior lighting
  • Two-zone climate control
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Leather steering

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid comes equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that runs Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and ensures crisp graphics and a very logical layout which is very intuitive as well. All the menus and frequently used features are in the font for the convenience of the driver.

The system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay as standard but the absence of Android Auto is rather alarming. Talking of music, the standard system is a 14-speaker Bose audio system which can further be upgraded to a better 21-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound system. Some of the highlighting features of this infotainment system include:

  • 12.3-inch infotainment screen
  • 14-speaker BOSE premium audio system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Satellite radio
  • AM/FM/SiriusXM
  • 6-disc CD/DVD changer

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid looks as sporty as all the other Panameras but the front has an even aggressive look, along with certain highlights to denote the Hybrid variant. The vents are huge, and functional, to provide ample cooling to the engine and also aid with the aerodynamics that run throughout the car. The headlights are LED and can further be upgraded to PDLS+ that make the car look good, as well as add to the safety.

The sides have a very sporty appeal with big alloys and aerodynamic lines running across. The rear of the car looks beautiful with the LED lights and the exhaust pipes make a lot of sense with an engine like the one under the hood. The active spoiler adds to the looks and help keep the car stable at high speeds.

Curb Weight (lbs)

Length (inches)

Width (inches)

Height (inches)

Ground Clearance (inches)

Wheelbase (inches)

The Panamera is a wide car and surely translates to a bit of difficulty while maneuvering through tight spaces. The height is low which does eat up into some headroom but it is enough for the normal-heighted individual. The shorter wheelbase aids in handling and doesn’t make the heavy curb weight feel. That said, some of the most highlighting features are:

  • Ceramic-composite brake rotors
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Rear-wheel steering
  • Air suspension
  • 19-inch Wheels
  • Power Spoiler
  • Power Liftgate
  • Adaptive LED headlights
  • LED tail lights

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid has a very steep price premium over the competitors but the standard driver-assistance features on the car aren’t as packed as the rivals. That aside, the car comes with Porsche-specific features like Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP), Traffic Sign Recognition, ParkAssist, and cruise control. Additional safety features on top of these features include:

  • Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
  • Porsche InnoDrive
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Surround-view camera system
  • Night Vision Assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Adaptive cruise control

2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid Vs. 2022 BMW 7-Series 745e xDrive

The Porsche is a dynamically handling sedan which offers sportscar-like performance, even with a car full of people. The suspension system is a bit firm but is comfortable enough. The engine is powerful but gives similar fuel-economy to the Bimmer. The Bimmer suffers from a small fuel tank but has a bigger cabin for making the drive comfortable, more cargo space, good pace, and a comparatively affordable price tag.

2022 BMW 7-Series 745e xDrive

2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid Vs. 2022 Audi A8 60 TFSI e quattro

The Audi offers good acceleration, a comfortable cabin but the performance is something where the Porsche excels. The driving impression of the Audi is as good as a luxury car, but the Porsche remains the better one out here. The fuel economy of the Porsche is similar to the Audi but the bigger tank helps in aiding with the range.

2022 Audi A8 60 TFSI e quattro

Final Verdict

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is the most complete package in the market when someone wants to buy a sporty German super sedan that has electric assistance and 911-like handling. It has all the features that the segment demands and one-ups on the luxury that there should be. The only question is whether the Panamera Hybrid is worth the massive premium over its rivals that provide nothing less in any aspect.
