The Porsche Panamera line-up is one massive plethora of different engine options, features, wheelbases, and of course, features. The SE Hybrid sits at the top of the hierarchy with the most power on tap and the best “green” performance via the hybrid system on offer. The car comes powered by a 4.0L V8 paired to an AC motor that produces nearly 700 horsepower and 641 lb-ft of torque on tap making it one of the quickest German super sedans around. It also has all the bells and whistles that the line-up offers, along with some extras as well.

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is expected to be carried over unchanged because the 2021 model year got a mild styling refresh, making it look younger than ever. This German super-sedan has no competition at the price point it comes in, but is very similarly equipped to the BMW 7-Series 745e and the Audi A8 e quattro.

The 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is the topmost trim in the range and comes with all the bells and whistles that one comes to expect of a sedan of this calibre. It is similarly equipped to the Turbo S and has performance upgrades like ceramic-composite brake rotors, torque-vectoring, and rear-wheel steering. This trim also adds features like a second air-conditioning system that helps to cool the car while unoccupied. The infotainment sees an upgrade in the speakers to a 14-speaker Bose audio system. It has all the features that you may need, ever, from a car and also has solid driving dynamics that might be a bit too much for the city.

The 2022 Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid will carry over the same engine form the previous model year, which means under the hood will be the same twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 paired to an AC motor that adds 136 horsepower to the total output, making it a massive 690 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque. This output is sent to all the four wheels via Porsche’s 8-Speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) unit which ensures blistering launches and seamless shifts while overtaking or while on the track.

The car is very firm in the city due to the suspension’s setting. The sheer width of the car also makes it a bit tricky to maneuver around the tight parking spots but the light steering does help a lot. The engine feels very quiet and smooth in the city due to the electric motor doing its thing. On the highway, the switch to the gas engine is seamless and the car feels alive with a blistering pace and rock-solid stability. The cabin is very quiet and there is very low road noise, making it an ideal car for long distances as well.

The Panamera hits the performance game out of the park with visibly quick numbers and better acceleration times, along with double the power and double the price as well. Since there are no hybrids even close to the Panamera, the Bimmer and the Audi remain the last choice - and cost half of what the Panamera costs. For 6-cylinder hybrid engines, the Bimmer is the quicker one of the two with a sub 5-second 0-60 MPH run and a 13.2-second quarter-mile.

The Panamera is as fuel-efficient as the others while also having a very similar electric-only range. The biggest tank in the competition also means that the Panamera gets the highest range among all the cars. The Bimmer’s small tank hurts the range by a lot while the Audi one-ups in terms of highway economy. Talking of the Audi, it carries a 42% bigger tank which aids a lot in the range, making it the best choice for going miles.

The interiors of the 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid is as posh as it can get and uses the best quality for the price. The overall layout is very driver-centric with good feedback from the buttons. The door is finished in a nice combination of leather and wood trim, while the handles are finished in aluminium for a solid feel. The dashboard repeats the same texture and materials while also maintaining the sporty characteristics inside.

The center console is in easy reach of the driver and houses controls for various functions like the seat heating/ventilation and climate control. There is gloss black trim across the dashboard which does attract a lot of fingerprints and hinders the beautiful trim. Other than that, there is a small cubby and a couple of cup holders for extra convenience. The cubby spaces continue in the rear seats as well with multiple ports for connectivity and a small cubby in the rear console for holding a mobile phone inside it.

The seats in the Panamera feel as if they’ve been made for the track, with massive support and excellent bolstering. These seats are best used on twisty roads but are also meant to be comfortable for long drives. As for the features, these seats have power-adjustability and heating for both the rows. The rear seats are as comfortable and have a lot of space as well for comfortable seating. As for the ventilation, the front seats get them but that too as optional. 

The Panamera has a hatchback liftgate that makes it very versatile, to say the least. The space inside is 17.6 cubic feet which, for the segment, is impressive and the shape of the boot lets it hold a lot of cargo as well. The cargo floor is pretty low and there are two massive cubby areas on either side for more practicality. To top it off, there is a scuff plate that prevents any scuffs or scratches while loading or unloading luggage.

The Panamera seats one person less than the others, but the seating is very comfortable and bathed in luxurious materials. As for the space inside, the company hasn’t released any data for the dimensions but for what it is, the space is very comfortable but the headroom is a bit compromised due to the shape of the roof. The Bimmer gets the best cabin space with massive headroom and respectable legroom in both the rows, one-upping the Audi as well. The system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay as standard but the absence of Android Auto is rather alarming. The headlights are LED and can further be upgraded to PDLS+ that make the car look good, as well as add to the safety.
