Porsche introduced its first all-electric sedan vehicle series Taycan back in 2019. Back then Porsche was only thinking about making a four-door electric vehicle that will be known for its performance in the future and will compete directly with some famous electric sedans. Then Porsche launched a series of vehicles under the Taycan badge, theTurbo S was the topmost trim and came with the most powerful electric drivetrain.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Porsche wants the Taycan to continue its journey in 2022 and its Turbo S trim will follow the core theme and will carry on the Porsche’s sports genes of the current version. The upcoming Turbo S will still remain the most powerful in the series without much change but we must embrace ourselves for minor interior and exterior cosmetic upgrades. The vehicle would still continue to impress us with its best-in-class performance figures that beat the many million dollars supercars. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S will straight away compete with the Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air Electric.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Features

In 2021 the Taycan Turbo S is the top-end option in the Taycan series. Currently, it sits at a price point of $185,000 and the upcoming 2022 year’s model is expected to be launched with an increased price of $186,500. The 2021 Turbo S offers the best performance with the help of its two exceptionally efficient AC permanent synchronous motors, the future model would likely follow this trend unless Porsche decides to launch a new version of Taycan with more power. Please follow all the features that are expected in the future model:

We Recommend

Porsche hasn’t announced any details regarding the 2022 version of the Taycan Turbo S but it is estimated that the upcoming version will look like the current model. Porsche might manage some cosmetic improvements but that won’t completely change the vehicle, it will still be the same Taycan Turbo S from its core. The upcoming Turbo S will be as fast as the 2021 Turbo S with almost similar technology inside the cabin and hood and will beat the other electric sedans in the sporty performance that is why it is highly recommended.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Release Date

Porsche would likely release the upcoming version of news around the end of December 2021, which will give us some solid information about the vehicle and how it’s actually going to be. If that goes successfully then we might see the actual model in the early stage of 2022.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Engine and Performance

For the 2022 version of Taycan Turbo S, Porsche will use the same powertrain as the current one. The 2021 version is powered by two AC 460 kW permanent magnet synchronous motors, one power the front two wheels and the other one moves the rear wheels. Both motors work in harmony with each other to produce a maximum of 750 horsepower and the amazing initial 774lb-ft of linear Torque, which can be felt during the launch control.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Charge Port

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S will run on the advanced Porsche’s AWD drivetrain system and the four-wheel steering system also make it pretty accurate while taking turns. Other vehicles use the direct power transmission to the wheels, but Porsche uses one motor with direct transmission for front wheels while the other one is paired with the 2-speed automatic gearbox, and power for rear wheels passes through there.

All three competitors are powered by a dual electric motor system but Porsche Taycan Turbo S wins the horsepower contest. Porsche also stands on its 750 horsepower and actually uses it to deliver the best performance figures than the other two. Tesla Model S, on the other hand, does not have any sporty driving dynamics but it still does well as a daily rider, while Lucid Air Touring which still has to make its debut has awesome figures on paper.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Fuel Economy

The 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo S receives a 93.4 kWh gross battery capacity which takes around 10.5 hours to completely charge itself with the aid of a 9.6 kW AC input charger, but the charging time can be reduced to 9 hours when charged with the 11 kW AC input. For emergency situations, the Taycan Turbo S uses the 800-V Architecture which charges the vehicle with 270 kW power with 62 miles of range in just 5 mins of time. Porsche might improve the range of the new version as the current one claims 212 miles under the combined conditions.

The other two vehicles, Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air Touring might have a better range of 405 and 382 miles under the combined conditions, but none of them have the driving dynamics of Porsche and that is the reason the Taycan Turbo S Low range. Another reason for Tesla to have the highest range is its biggest in the segment battery capacity but an impressive fact is that it takes 1hr & 2hrs less than the Taycan & Air Touring respectively.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Interior

Porsche might introduce some changes inside the cabin but all those improvements will be made on the base design of the 2021 Taycan Turbo S. The present-day Turbo S model with the 18-way power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, the seats also get the heated tech to keep the occupants warm in the freezing weather. The front and rear sports seats for 4 occupants hug the driver and passengers tightly when the rider shoots the vehicle straight on the road.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Dashboard

Besides being sporty and performance-oriented the vehicle has plenty of room in the front row but the rear row feels a little bit cramped for taller passengers due to the sloping roof that Porsche offers. Porsche has decorated the cabin with the two-tone leather-free material, Taycan badge on the headrests, and occupants won’t feel the lack of storage spaces as it gets multiple storage compartments on the center console, front & rear doors.

Although the interior dimensions of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S aren’t mentioned in the table above, it's a spacious vehicle with a sportscar badge. Lucid Air Touring takes over the competition in terms of space in the first-row compartment while Tesla is not much behind the Air Touring. In the rear row, Lucid offers a good amount of space for tall passengers but the Tesla Model S is not bad in real-world usage. Some salient interior features of the Porsche Taycan TurboS are:

  • Heated front & rear seats
  • 18-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Advanced Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Wireless charging
  • 16.5-inch Curved instrument panel
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ambient lighting
  • Ventilated front seats
  • One-piece front & rear sports seats

How intuitive is the infotainment system?

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo S already captivates its rider with its extraordinary performance and sporty driving dynamics. But Porsche still integrated the vehicle with some pretty amazing tech which won’t let the riders get bored during their journey. The instrument panel behind the steering is all digital with a 16.8-inch curved display, it tells everything you want to know about the car.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Infotainment System

The other 10 & 8-inch dual infotainment touchscreen located at the center of the dashboard works smoothly and responsively. For rear passengers, Porsche offers an optional passenger screen. The lack of physical buttons sometimes makes it difficult to operate. Some Salient entertainment features of the vehicle are:

  • 10 & 8-inch Dual touchscreen infotainment display
  • Voice control with natural speech recognition
  • 3D navigation map
  • Sirius XM HD radio
  • 14-Speaker premium Bose sound system
  • Apple CarPlay smartphone integration
  • Navtime with real-time traffic display
  • Porsche vehicle tracking system
  • Online navigation
  • Bluetooth connectivity

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Exterior

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S will follow the same Mission E design concept that the 2021 version has, the car looks much more like the concept in the white color. Taycan Turbo S radiates the futuristic vibes when looked at from the front and the rear end, the front end gets the four-dot matrix LED headlights which integrate into the side vents in such a way that it looks like a single unit. The whole sporty design language would still resemble the Porsche 911.

The side profile is where the Taycan Turbo S looks like a coupe rather than a sedan, the sleek profile is maintained from front to end and the best part of the vehicle is its horizontal rear LED taillights strip. The audience would not want the Porsche to change the exterior styling, it is what everyone desired from the German automaker, to step up their game and launch an EV that won’t remind them of the gasoline Porsche versions.

The Tesla Model S here is the lightest one with the curb weight of 4561 pounds while the Porsche Taycan Turbo S weighs around 51010 and is the heaviest one in the lot. But for a sports sedan like Porsche weight keeps fluctuating due to the regular improvement by the German automakers. All three vehicles have approximately the same length but a slightly shorter wheelbase of Taycan Turbo S gives it an advantage while turning on high speeds and with the lowered height the chassis keeps the body roll to the bare minimum. Some highlighted exterior features are;

  • 21-inch Mission E design wheels
  • Performance summer tires
  • Adaptive air suspension with Porsche Smart lift
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Charging point located over fender
  • Four-dot matrix automatic headlights
  • A 360-degree view camera system
  • Horizontal Strip rear LED taillight.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Safety

The rigid chassis and the advanced safety tech have made it possible for the Taycan, Porsche has always been trusted for the safety of the customers, and the continued attempts of making a safe product. The vehicle is loaded with tons of basic as well as advanced safety features which can be seen below:

  • Intelligent range meter
  • Lane keep assist
  • Head & knee airbags on front & rear seats
  • Antilock Braking system
  • Large ceramic composite brake rotors

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Competition

Porsche Taycan Turbo S Vs Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is much more practical for daily riding as it costs much less, has better technology, and has a long-range. A great vehicle for a person who wants an EV but doesn’t want to spend that much money. Porsche Taycan Turbo S is costly but it doesn’t mean that it is just for its brand name, the driving dynamics maintain the vehicle speed while turning on the curvy roads without losing the control, more aerodynamic shape for more traction, and ultimately its the driving experience that Porsche is selling with the Taycan Turbo S.

2022 Tesla Model S Driving View

Porsche Taycan Turbo S Vs Lucid Air Touring

Lucid is a start-up company that started its business as a battery manufacturer but as per their expertise in the power management system, they decided to work their way up to the EV market. The product hasn’t seen the automobile market yet but according to the specs, it looks promising on the papers. Again it would not be a fair comparison between a legendary legacy and a new product, Lucid might launch a great product but it won’t be able to match the ride quality and the handling of the Taycan Turbo S.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sedan Final Verdict

Porsche has been known for its beautiful-looking vehicles which deliver beastly performance and precise handling. Before the launch of the Taycan series, every automaker was focusing on the SUV segment while creating an EV. Tesla was the first one to introduce the well manufactured electric sedan but that too is limited to daily driving, then Porsche decided to launch the Taycan Turbo S, they integrated the Porsche 911 design in the front, Panamera on the rear end and lowered the vehicle’s height and the car looked exactly like its concept. The 2022 version of the Taycan Turbo S will continue to impress us with the same exterior styling, Porsche might improve some elements but the core design will remain intact.
