The 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo-electric sedan is a perfect example of a car that performs like a sports car without harming the environment. The Porsche Taycan is a relatively new entrant to the electric luxury sedan segment. It is not the most practical option in the already competitive segment, but the moment you get behind the wheel, you will know that it is a Porsche. The sporty driving dynamics with mind-boggling performance will keep you entertained while driving it. All this comes with the peace of mind that you do not need to go to the gas station, but range might be a concern for some.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo will be a carry-over model of the current year model. The Porsche Taycan offers a very luxurious cabin that can accommodate four people. The handling dynamics of the car is very impressive and can put some sports car to shame. The Porsche Taycan Turbo competes against the likes of the Tesla Model S, Audi RS e-tron GT, and the Lucid Air Electric Sedan.

We recommend

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo sedan is a single trim level of the Porsche Taycan lineup. It offers very good performance and the driving dynamics are also very impressive. The standard feature list covers almost everything that you need. Although there are a ton of customization options available in the form of optional packages, we do not recommend them as they can make the already expensive Taycan Turbo even more expensive.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Release Date

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo sedan is expected to launch in the fall of 2021 with all the other trims of the Porsche Taycan lineup. There are no significant changes in the 2022 model year without a slight jump in the price.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Engine and Performance

7.0/10

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo will impress anyone who loves driving. Performance is one area where Porsche has not compromised at all. The 2022 Taycan Turbo comes with twin-electric motors that generate a whopping 671 horsepower and the maximum torque output is 627 pound-feet. The power output is equal to some of the best performing sports sedans in the market. The power is sent to all four wheels which give good traction.

The electric motor is mated to a 1-speed direct-drive transmission. The transmission handles the power very well. It gets the advantage of the EV nature and the power is available right from the start. The moment you press the gas pedal, you get an instant get-go and it pushes you back in your seats. The power remains constant throughout the rave band. The acceleration is also very fast for any car out there. The Porsche Taycan Turbo-electric sedan takes an impressive 3 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The quarter-mile timing is also very fast for the class at 11.1 seconds. The top speed is locked at 162 miles per hour.

The handling of the 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo-electric sedan remains similar to the Porsche cars. The suspension is very well tuned and keeps the car planted at all speeds. The steering wheel is also very precise and communicates very well to the driver inputs. The ride is also very matured and there is no up and down movement in the cabin. The Porsche Taycan offers a perfect combination of ride and handling balance.

*2021 data used for reference

All the cars in the competition offer very impressive performance. The 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT is mechanically the same as the Porsche Taycan Turbo from inside and that is very obvious from the acceleration figures. It gets less power compared to the Porsche as the Audi is more focused on comfort than performance. The 2021 Lucid Air Electric Sedan is the fastest car to reach 60 mph as it takes only 2.5 seconds. The Porsche Taycan Turbo comes next to the Lucid Air and takes 3 seconds to reach 60 mph. The 2022 Tesla Model S is marginally slower than the Porsche Taycan in 0 to 60 mph run but is slightly faster in the quarter-mile run.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Fuel Economy

6.0/10

The biggest advantage of buying an electric car is the efficiency as you do not need to pay for gas. It significantly reduces your running cost. But the biggest concern becomes the range of the car as it can limit the go anywhere factor. The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo comes with a battery capacity of 93.4 kWh. The battery pack is good enough for the car but fails to impress with its range in such a great-performing car. The overall range of 203 miles is not that impressive when compared to the rivals. It is still a good enough option with such a great performance and a decent driving range.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo sedan offers the least range in the competition which is the only major downside of the Taycan Turbo. The Audi RS e-tron GT is also not very impressive and offers only 29 miles more than the Taycan Turbo. The 2022 Tesla Model S offers a really excellent range of 412 miles without compromising much on performance. The 2021 Lucid Air Electric Sedan takes this to the next level with a claimed range of 517 miles, their best range claimed yet in the segment.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Interior

6.0/10

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Electric Sedan offers a great cabin for the segment. The moment when you enter the cabin, you know it is a Porsche. The ambiance in the cabin will impress most of the buyers and it gives a sense of luxury. The dashboard is designed very well and you can find the use of soft-touch materials on it. Every touchpoint for the driver and even the passenger is made of high-quality materials. There are no quirks in the overall design or the quality of the cabin.

The front row offers a good amount of space for the driver and the co-passenger. Similar to the other Porsche cars, the interior space for the Taycan Turbo Electric Sedan has not been revealed by Porsche. Still, the cabin feels good enough in terms of overall space. The driving position is also very sporty and comfortable. It might be an issue while getting in and out of the car for some people but once you are inside, there is no concern. The ergonomics are also taken care of very well. All the controls are within the reach of the driver which makes driving even more fun.

The rear seats also offer very decent space for the class. The only thing that makes it stand behind the competition is the fact that it can accommodate only two passengers in the rear. It makes it a four-seater while all the other rivals offer space for three passengers at the back. The cargo area is also not very great and you get a very decent space of 14.3 cubic feet. Overall, the interior of the 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo is pretty good for the segment for four people.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan impresses with the cabin quality and the space is also very decent for the segment. However, the competitors offer better overall practicality in the cabin. The ability to accommodate only four passengers in total makes it a little compromised in terms of practicality and the small cargo area only adds to it. The Audi RS e-tron GT offers the best in class space to the passengers followed by the Tesla Model S. Standout interior features in the 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo are:

  • 14-Way Power Seats with Memory Functions
  • Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Wheel
  • Remote Keyless Entry
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Air Conditioning
  • Air Filtration

How intuitive is the 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo’s infotainment unit?

The 2022 Porsche Taycan will feature a dual-touchscreen infotainment display. There is also an additional 10.9-inch display for the instrument cluster. The screens are very intuitive and also easy to operate. The primary screen is a little turned towards the driver to make it easy on the go. The screen also comes with very impressive graphics. The brightness of the screen is also not an issue as it is clearly visible even in direct sunlight. The secondary screen can be used to control the automatic climate control. It also comes in handy while navigating the menus on the main screen. The main center touchscreen is 10.9-inch while the secondary screen is 8.4-inch.

Porsche has used some physical buttons inside the cabin, still, you need to rely on the touchscreen for accessing many features. It makes it a little difficult to operate the screens while driving. There are a ton of connectivity features with the infotainment including Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity, but the Android Auto is still missing from the pack. Standout infotainment features in the 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo are:

  • A 10.9-inch center touchscreen infotainment display
  • 8.4-inch secondary touchscreen
  • 4G Hotspot
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Apple CarPlay
  • SiriusXM radio

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Exterior

8.0/10

Although the Porsche Taycan Tubo is an electric car, it looks very similar to the Porsche design language. The design language of the Porsche feels the most premium of all the electric sedans in the competition. The design is aerodynamic and every bit of the exterior will appeal to the buyers. The front design comes with sharp curves on the bonnets with the Porsche LED matrix headlamps. The overall exterior style resembles well with the Porsche family.

The exterior styling seems very proportionate from all sides. The side gets 20-inch wheels which complements the overall appearance of the car. The Porsche Taycan is also very low compared to the other rivals. The rear styling also resembles the Porsche family. The only thing that differentiates it from other Porsche cars is the long single taillamp strip that passes all the way through the tailgate.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo Sedan impresses with the overall styling. All cars in the segment are very futuristic in appearance, but Porsche stands out with its completely different design language. The 2022 Tesla Model S is the longest car in the segment after the Audi RS e-tron GT and is the widest of them all. It also has the longest wheelbase in the segment. The 2022 Audi e-tron is the longest in the segment but has a shorter wheelbase than the 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo. The Audi RS e-tron GT manages the space very well and provides good interior space. Standout exterior features in the 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo are:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • LED matrix headlamps
  • LED Brakelights
  • Power tailgate
  • Power Spoiler
  • Rain-sensing wipers

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Safety

9.0/10

There is no concrete data on the safety of the 2022 Porsche Taycan Electric Turbo Sedan yet as it has been only two years since the launch of the car. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not crash-tested the Porsche Taycan which remains the case for any Porsche cars out there. Talking about the history of Porsche, they take the safety of the passengers very seriously.

Considering the same factor and based on the initial impressions with the Taycan Turbo, we think it will be the same with the 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo. The standard safety features with the 2022 Porsche Taycan are rather impressive. It gets features like electronic stability control, driveline traction control, front and rear parking sensors, warn and brake assist, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, rear child safety locks, and backup camera. Standout safety features include:

  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Driveline Traction Control
  • Brake Assist
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Mitigation
  • Back-Up Camera

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Competition

6.0/10

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo vs. 2022 Tesla Model S

If you want a practical electric sedan in the segment then the 2022 Tesla Model S becomes an obvious choice. It not only offers better practicality but also offers similar performance to the Porsche. Things start to get very different when you think from an enthusiast’s point of view, as Porsche targets its own set of people. It competes well with an aerodynamic package and impressive handling. Still, it is hard to recommend the Porsche Taycan Turbo over the Tesla Model S as Tesla also offers a better range at a much lower price.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo vs. 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT

The 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT is a practical choice in the segment. Both the cars are from the same family but have very distinct characteristics. The Audi RS e-tron GT is more inclined towards comfort and practicality. The Porsche Taycan on the other hand targets a more enthusiastic set of customers. It completely depends on your priorities to choose one between the two.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo vs. 2021 Lucid Air Electric Sedan

The Lucid Air Electric Sedan is a very new entrant in the EV world as the 2021 model is their first model year. The Lucid Air comes with a lot of big claims and continues the same with the 2022 model. It is not only the fastest car in the segment but it also claims the best-in-class range at 517 miles in a full charge. The overall range of the Ludic Air is more than twice as compared to the Porsche Taycan Turbo. Porsche is a well-established brand and we all know about the reliability of the car. That still remains to be seen for the Lucid Air sedan but based on the claims, Lucid Air seems like a better package of the two.

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo Sedan Final Verdict

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo Electric Sedan is one of the best electric sedans for enthusiasts in the segment. It offers impressive performance with impeccable driving dynamics. The only shortcoming remains the range of the car which might be a limiting factor for many buyers. The competition offers a more sensible package at a significantly lower price, which makes the Taycan a hard choice in the segment. Still, if you liked the 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo, then you can buy the 2022 model as it will largely remain the same.
