Which Trim should you buy?

We will recommend buying the Laramie Trim because it gets most of the premium features like leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel that enhance the overall experience. Plus, it does not cost a fortune and can be purchased within a $40,000 budget. However, if you are not restrained by the Budgets and want your truck to look as good as it works you can buy the Limited trim that has some exterior styling packages available and with all the tech gizmos from the previous trims and some more.

2019 RAM 1500 Engine and Performance

6.0/10

The 2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab gets a 3.6L V6 motor under the hood. The motor is naturally aspirated and comes with 24 valves and a Variable Valve Timing system. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and produces 305 horses and 269 lb-ft of torque. The power of the engine is adequate and the acceleration is respectable by pickup truck standards. The engine has enough juice to cruise at triple-digit speeds on the highway comfortably, and still be able to execute quick overtakes. The gearbox is smooth and precise. The torque on offer is also ample, though not the best in class. Overall, it gets a decent powertrain.

The RAM is the quickest pickup of the group. With the standard engine, it only takes 6.6 seconds for 0-60 mph, while the quarter-mile run is done in 14.7 seconds. The GMC and the Chevy come in a close second even though they are quite a bit lighter. All the trucks here have a top speed of 130mph. The Ford seems to be the slowest in terms of the quarter-mile times and the 0-60 acceleration times as well.

How well does the 2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab handle?

The RAM 1500 is stable on road at high speeds in a straight line. The truck feels rock-solid on the highway and cruises comfortably. The suspension is set up on the softer side, it completely irons out all the road undulations and takes the nastiest of bumps with ease. As a result, the ride quality is supremely comfortable. But there is a fair amount of body roll present. The RAM gets sophisticated air suspension for all four wheels. The steering feels light at low speeds and weighs up nicely at high speeds. That said, it feels quite easy to maneuver around tight spots as well.

The softer suspension makes this truck really smooth on roads with undulations but as the roads get smooth and wide and you wish to put your foot down that might be an issue as the vehicle does not give you the confidence of that great handling. Trodd along at reasonable speeds and this truck is just perfect but drive hard is not recommended. This truck’s handling setup is a great one but will surely need some getting used to.

2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab Braking Performance

The RAM 1500 is a heavy truck and it needs large brakes to compensate. The RAM gets 13.2-inch front discs and 13.8-inch rear discs. The 60-0 stopping distance of 123 feet is respectable for a pickup truck of this size, but there is a great deal of nose dive during hard braking, which can be a bit unnerving. The bite and feedback from the brakes are good but lack progression.

The RAM, despite being the heaviest, stops in the shortest distance. The F-150 comes in a close second with a respectable 127 feet, thanks to its lighter curb weight. However, the GM twins aren't too far behind either with both the trucks boasting a 60-0 mph distance of under 130 feet. The Ford weighs the least at 4177 lbs and that makes it a very good contender and finally among the leaders after being out performed in other aspects the F-150 finally comes close to matching the braking prowess of the RAM.

2019 RAM 1500 Fuel Economy

3.0/10

In terms of fuel economy, the RAM 1500 is now on par with the segment-leading F-150. It offers 20 MPG in the city, while it manages to extract an impressive 25 MPG on the highway. This combined with the 26-gallon fuel tank means that it gets a range of 520 miles in the city and 650 miles on the highway, thus, making the 2019 RAM 1500 the new king when it comes to efficiency.

The RAM and the Ford offer the best mileage figures. The GMC in spite of being lighter and underpowered than the RAM is somehow worse in terms of gas mileage. It becomes more surprising, considering the fact that the RAM is the heaviest of all the vehicles here. The Ford has the smallest fuel tank here with 23 gallons while the Sierra and the Chevy come with a 28 gallon capacity and the RAM has only 23 Gallons. The Ford and the RAM share the same mileage figures while the other two are very closely matched. The RAM when compared to these trucks does do real well in this aspect.

2019 RAM 1500 Interior

9.0/10

The 2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab feels premium and upmarket on the inside and uses soft-touch materials generously. The upper dash is covered with soft-touch materials and also the door panels. The lower dash gets sturdy and tough, hard plastics that feel durable. The seats are comfortable and soft, but also provide good support.

The seats are 10-way power adjusting with 2-way lumbar support along with 2 memory functions. The door panels also get stitched leather along with aluminum and wood inserts. Front and rear headroom, legroom, and shoulder room are great, with even 6 footers can sit comfortably. The seats are clad in soft leather on the top trims. One thing that may put some people off is the busy layout of the dash. This becomes even more apparent when compared with the F-150 side by side.

The GMC and the Chevy offer the maximum space on the inside. 2019 RAM 1500 Exterior

6.0/10

The 2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab gets a completely new look. The base model looks a bit odd due to the black bumpers, but the higher ones are very striking and elegant. The bold front grille looks imposing. The grille is covered in chrome with RAM embossed in the center in bold lettering. The LED headlights are sleek as are the taillights.

The Headlights are Bi-Function Halogens with LED DRLs. The RAM 1500 gets LED turn indicators mounted on the body-colored outside rearview mirrors. The mirrors are electronically adjustable and also come with a heating function. Overall, the RAM 1500 commands excellent road presence.

2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab vs 2019 Ford F-150 SuperCrew

The Ford F-150 is the best-selling pickup in America over the years and is truly the best choice. It has a great engine, a buttery-smooth gearbox, and a futuristic infotainment system along with loads of space, great interiors, and excellent gas mileage. It is robust and durable and is a real workhorse. The new RAM, however, seems to have an edge over the Ford in almost every comparable category, be it performance or towing capacity. Despite weighing significantly more than the Ford, the RAM still pulls ahead with its exceptional fuel efficiency.

2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab vs 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab

The GMC Sierra is the one to go for if you desire opulence from your pickup, especially with the higher trims like the Denali. As a utilitarian vehicle, the Sierra is not even close to the new RAM. The RAM boasts better numbers than the Sierra in nearly all the comparable categories without costing a fortune. The RAM gets better suspension and the overall ride quality is also better.

2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab vs 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

The same story continues here as both the Sierra and the Silverado are practically similar. However, the Silverado costs a bit less than its GMC cousin which can be a plus for some buyers. But where the GMC shines with its luxurious and imposing looks, the Silverado divides opinions with its polarizing exterior design. Our pick would unarguably be the new RAM 1500.

2019 RAM 1500 Final Verdict

6.2/10

The 2019 RAM 1500 Crew Cab offers great ride quality with great interiors. It is also robust and durable and a perfect workhorse all while being a capable daily driver as well. It seems to barely have any flaws and considering the performance with the brilliant MPG figures, it's a no-brainer. So, in terms of being economical, as well as being robust and durable, i.e. being a perfect workhorse, the RAM 1500 seems to have dethroned the mighty Ford F-150.
