Pick-up trucks aren’t normal vehicles, these massive machines are capable of doing rigorous work under super tough conditions. These are also referred to as heavy-duty trucks that pull a serious amount of load, can glide even on the toughest roads, and clearing some rough patches on the roads is a piece of cake for them. To withstand all this abuse a simple combination of the latest technology and comfort won’t do any good to this segment and that’s why automakers like RAM manufactures the vehicles like RAM 2500 only for those who like to use their vehicle rough and tough.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2021 RAM 2500 is already a strong product and giving tough competition to its competitors but RAM is planning to make some upgrades for the 2022 model. The current model is already loaded with the latest tech and upscale interior, the seats are comfy and the cabin is spacious enough for a complete family. For off-road adventures, RAM 2500 is loaded with the coil-spring suspension and a powerful engine that can haul a lot of weight. These core things will be the same for the 2022 RAM 2500 but besides all these things the 2022 RAM 2500 will give tough competition to Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab, Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab, and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD Double Cab.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Features

Ram offers its 2500 in three different body styles: Regular, Crew, and Mega. The Mega Cab body style has the biggest dimensions amongst the three and is available in five trim levels namely, Lone Star, Big Horn, Limited, Laramie, and Longhorn, whereas the other body styles are being offered to the customers in six different trim levels. RAM has integrated the current 2500 Mega Cab with two powertrain choices, a 6.4-liter V8 gasoline engine and the other one is the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine. The Mega Cab only comes with the 4x4 drivetrain system. All these things will be the same for the 2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab but RAM might introduce a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission.

We Recommend

RAM might introduce some major cosmetic and transmission updates to the 2500 series but for urgent buyers, it won’t make any difference. Although the RAM 2500 Mega Cab is a great product, its base trim Big Horn is integrated with the basic functional and basic safety features. it will only make sense when you are on a tight budget and want a vehicle with monstrous performance and truck-like stance just purely for off-roading. But if you want to keep up with the modern tech and great comfortability then opt for the mid-level trim Laramie, it has all that a person requires on a daily basis.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Release Date

The automakers haven’t said anything about the 2022 version of RAM 2500 Mega Cab but the news about the upcoming model is expected to arrive in the second half of 2021, which might open the gates for the booking of the vehicle. If that happens then expect the showroom arrival of the vehicle in the 2022 summers.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Engine and Performance

The heavy-duty off-roader requires a strong and high-performance engine for the heavy-duty tasks and to run the vehicle smoothly during rough off-roading adventures. The 2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab isn’t planning to change the amazing powerhouses that arrive with the 2021 RAM 2500 manufacturing unit, the vehicle will still be powered by the 6.4-L, naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engine which generates a total power of 410 horses and the 429 pound-feet of torque. Torque is the main factor for hauling a certain amount of weight and more torque means more weight hauling capacity & quick 0 to 60 acceleration, the gas engine generates 429 pound-feet of torque.

If that much pulling force is not enough for then consider going with the 6.7-liter, Cummins turbocharged diesel engine which churns out 370 horsepower and the whooping 850 pound-feet of torque, and with that much pulling force the vehicle can tow a max weight of around 20,000 pounds with the right set of equipment. For the 2021 RAM 2500 manufacturing unit, the gas engine comes paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission but rumors say that RAM is planning to introduce the 10-speed automatic Allison gearbox, which is built to last longer and heavy-duty hauling.

RAM 2500 Mega Cab has the most powerful engine with around 410 hp of power but it is still not cut to the first place in the raw performance, its low torque value may be the reason behind that. Chevy Silverado 2500HD Double Cab and GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab share the corresponding power and torque figures but due to their weight differences Chevy takes the lead just by 0.1 seconds and with that much difference it does not matter which one you choose both will perform the same in real-life conditions. Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab has a reasonable price and performance, more interesting thing is that it can tow much better than any truck in the competition.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Fuel Economy

People buy these vehicles to go on off-roading adventures with the family. Usually, families carry a lot of stuff with them like camping gear, bicycles, food supplies, and other safety equipment and for that reason, the vehicle must be equipped with a strong and tough powerhouse that can take abuse. To tackle all the tough conditions, the vehicle needs a lot of power and that reduces the fuel economy, RAM 2500 Mega Cab is no different, it claims 11 and 16 mpg in the city driving and on the straight highways respectively.

The 2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab will follow the footsteps of the 2021 manufacturing unit but fuel economy might go up if RAM might introduce the 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. From 8-speed to 10-speed will definitely increase the cruising ability of vehicles at high speeds and this will put less strain on the powertrain and ultimately result in better fuel economy. One thing can be said that the fuel economy of Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will be exactly the same considering the performance they deliver and besides all these things they also receive the biggest fuel tank of 36 gallons.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Interior

The RAM 2500 comes in different trim levels and body styles, with the multiple optional features the vehicle opens the door of customizability for the buyers. Here we are going to talk about the cabin details and features of the RAM 2500 Mega Cab. The 2022 and 2021 units will have the corresponding cabin details. So let’s start with the rear compartment, the lower trim has the fabric upholstery but the upper trim does get a nice leather upholstery even on the doors with the nice stitchings. Speakers are integrated into the door panels on both front & rear sides, one thing is that rear seats can be folded flat with a single switch for more storage. It has ample room at rear seats even for tall passengers.

For rear passengers, it has a separate 118V, 400W power outlet with two A/C-type USB ports with central & cupholders. It is a similar story with front door panels with nice stitching, soft-touch leather, and swede inserts but one thing different is all the windows ORVMs controls, memory seat settings. Upper tri has leather-wrapped steering with audio & cruise controls well separated & clearly marked. For more convenience & comfort, RAM offered the front seats with a heated & ventilated system which can be controlled through the infotainment system. The center console has a lot of space for 2 devices with a deep bin and cupholders.

Even though all four vehicles have only two rows but still they come with the occupancy for 5 people, from the looks of the data mentioned above it seems that Chevy & GMC are the spacious ones in the front row seats and RAM 2500 Mega Cab secures the last place in that respect. It is totally opposite on the rear side as now RAM 2500 has the best in class space for the family whereas Chevy & GMC finish last. Some highlights of the interior features are:

  • Fabric bench seat (on lower-trim)
  • 8-Way power-adjustable front seats (on upper trim)
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel (on upper trim)
  • LED interior lighting (on upper trim)
  • Front seats two-way power lumbar support (on upper trim)
  • Heated steering & front seats (on upper trim)
  • Heated rear seats (from Longhorn trim onwards)
  • Wood & leather-wrapped steering wheel (from Longhorn trim onwards)
  • Ventilated front seats (from Longhorn trim onwards)
  • Premium leather upholstery (from Longhorn trim onwards)
  • Rear floor storage bin (from Longhorn trim onwards)

How intuitive is the infotainment system?

RAM 2500 Mega Cab is a big truck that is made for heavy-duty stuff but it doesn’t mean that it won’t have any features to keep you entertained. Mega Cab is meant to be a weight as well as the family-hauling vehicle, families & friends like to go on off-roading adventures in this vehicle and for that reason, there are plenty of features to keep you entertained such as 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is situated right in the middle of the dashboard in the portrait manner, with an additional cost one can opt for the massive 12-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system also supports the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, wi-fi hotspot, navigation system, five USB ports, and three 115-volts power outlets which can handle 400 watts of supply to charge your devices. Some highlights of the infotainment system are:

  • 8.4-inch touch screen display
  • A 12-inch touchscreen display on upper trim
  • 7-inch color driver information display
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto smartphone integration
  • Navigation
  • Wi-fi hotspot
  • Wireless charging pad
  • AM/FM stereo & satellite radio

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Exterior

There isn’t any information given by the automakers about the 2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab but the exterior design language will almost be similar to the 2021 manufacturing unit. The current RAM 2500 Mega Cab has the 2500 heavy-duty badge in chrome and red color accent on the hood, the front gets full LED headlights with LED DRLs and a massive front horizontally designed chrome grille with the RAM badge on it.

You will find the parking sensors and tow hooks at the bottom end of the front part with the LED foglights housings. On the side profile, the big 18-inch massive profile steel wheels which make everything more interesting, RAM 2500 does get the extended trailer ORMs with a power-adjustable feature on upper trim levels. The rear side looks sober and clean with simply designed taillights. RAM and 4X4 badging. Opening the tailgate is never more easy as it gets remote tailgate excess and hydraulic control.

Let’s hop in the back of the vehicle and as we observe that there is no Bedliner with this truck as standard but it can be added as an option though from the factory. What it has, is the LED lights and fifth wheel with prep group with emergency power outlets and one more thing is that it comes with the only option of 6 foot 4 bed which supports 1900 pounds of payload capacity and can’t be opted with an 8-foot bed. We might expect much sharper design language with sharp headlights on the 2022 models.

One thing that amazes us in the table above is the 20,000 pounds of the towing capacity of the Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab while others can tow less than 15000 pounds. Besides that, RAM 2500 Mega Cab has the least length and shortest wheelbase out of all four trucks which makes it pretty easy to maneuver than others in tight traffic conditions but its low ground clearance and 13,960 pounds of towing capacity disappoints us. On the other hand, the sister companies GMC & Chevy share every single outer dimension and can tow an even amount of weight. Some highlights of the exterior styling & features are :

  • 18-inch steel wheels on Big Horn
  • Acoustic front glass
  • Extended towing mirrors
  • LED fog & taillights
  • Aluminum wheels on Laramie
  • Power-adjustable ORVMs

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Safety

Undoubtedly just like any other truck, RAM 2500 Mega Cab is also integrated with lots of basic safety and advanced technology and that certainly assures the rider and the passengers but one thing you have to keep in mind is that the crash test ratings by NHSTA and IIHS of 2500 Mega Cab haven’t been out yet.

The RAM 2500 Mega Cab is not just a load-carrying truck, it’s rather a family truck and that is why RAM has made sure the safety of occupants with the features like a forward-collision warning system, adaptive LED headlamps, Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring system, cross path detection, lane keep assist and much more. Shortly, NHSTA and IIHS might perform the crash tests on the vehicle but the 2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab will have the same features as the current model. All the safety features of the RAM 2500 Mega Cab are mentioned below:

  • Rearview camera
  • Electronic stability control
  • Surround camera system
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Brake assist
  • Traction control
  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Conventional trailer coverage
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive LED headlights

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Competition

RAM 2500 Mega Cab Vs Ford F-250 SuperDuty XL 4WD SuperCab

The Ford  F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab is an ultimate competitor of the RAM 2500 Mega Cab and the rivalry will continue in the 2022 MY. It is cheaper by almost $6000 and has less power than RAM 2500 Mega Cab but performance figures are the same, they both complete the acceleration test within the same time but the top speed is less than 100 mph. If you wanna tow some big stuff then Ford F-250 cuts the line and makes more sense but for an up-market feel inside the cabin, RAM 2500 Mega Cab takes the first place.

RAM 2500 Mega Cab Vs Chevy Silverado 2500HD LT 4WD Double Cab

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab is definitely more spacious than on front row seats but for family one always requires the rear row seats and in that aspect, RAM 2500 Mega Cab wins the race. For a truck, RAM 2500 Mega Cab has more of a subtle and clean look all the way from to rear and Chevy Silverado 2500HD has somewhat futuristic headlights with massive front grilles. The most interesting fact is Chevy's 10-inch ground clearance and 540 pounds of extra towing capacity.

RAM 2500 Mega Cab Vs GMC Sierra 2500 HD Double Cab

The GMC Sierra has that evergreen classy yet modern look when seen from the front side and the black treatment on the front grille makes exterior styling more appealing. On the other hand, RAM 2500 Mega Cab offers more of a subtle, sober, and curvy look, the design language is minimalist yet makes it stand out in the crowd. The 20-inch black-colored wheels on the top-level trim shine separately and other than that GMC’s & Chevy’s outer/inner dimensions are exactly the same.

2022 RAM 2500 Mega Cab Final Verdict

The RAM 2500 Mega Cab is still a great truck and it can tow more than enough weight for family adventures. Its short outer dimensions make it easy to drive on tough terrain and in tight traffic conditions. For the 2022 manufacturing year, RAM is planning to introduce a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, Allison transmissions are made to last longer and can take a lot of abuse and this upgrade might also grant the vehicle a greater top speed and better fuel efficiency. Not only that but the exterior style may also change with more sharp headlights and lines.
