For 2022, RAM is bringing ProMaster with some interesting updates. First of all, the whole lineup gets an all-new TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission which is going to replace the old six-speed transmission. This is certainly going to affect ProMaster’s performance in a good way. Then comes the updated interior design because of the new infotainment system. But it does have its limitations which we will talk about below, which is why rivals such as Nissan NV, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and Ford Transit offer tough competition to the Promaster.

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Features

The 2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van comes in one and only trim labeled as ‘2500 Window Van. It is only available with a high roof. This $37,390 van offers a pretty good list of features that justify its price tag. On top of that, the updated or should we say an all-new infotainment system makes everything better. Such as a new seven-inch infotainment touchscreen replacing the old smaller sized one and yes if buyers want they can have an even bigger 10-inch touchscreen.

Other features such as Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto support, Uconnect 5C NAV, dual smartphone BlueTooth connectivity, and digital rearview mirror are available. A plethora of safety assists are also available including adaptive cruise control with stop and go, LaneSense, parking sensors, and ParkView backup camera with grid lines.

Which trim should you buy?

Despite being one and only trim, the ProMaster 2500 Window Van offers a lot of options to buyers. As you get a V6 engine mated with an all-new automatic transmission which should certainly enhance the driving experience over previous year models. The updated infotainment system is surely a worthy addition. We would advise sticking with the standard 7-inch touchscreen as you are still going to get all sorts of connectivity options. But going for the optional 7-inch driver display should be a decent upgrade over the standard 3.5 inches one. Various packages are also available from which we would fully recommend the convenience package that adds more storage areas, better ambient lighting, front fog lamps, and a locking glove box.

2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van Release Date

RAM hasn’t announced the exact release date for the 2022 ProMaster 2500 Window Van yet. There is, however, the ProMaster Crew Van model for 2022 available for order on the website, which suggests that the Window Van release for 2022 will be near the end of the year.

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Engine and Performance

8.0/10

Once again, the 2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van is available in one and only engine configuration. A 3.6 Litre V6 engine that can produce 280 horsepower and a torque of 260 lb-ft. The engine is paired with an all-new TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission which replaces the old six-speed one. We must say this one is far superior to the previously used transmission. However, the power is sent to the front wheels only and all-wheel drive is missing which can be a problem for some.

As for the engine, it does sound good and seems active but we don't have 0-60 mph and quarter-mile timings yet. But last year's model took 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph and could finish a quarter-mile in 16.5 seconds which was slower for its class. So having a better transmission should improve the performance. So expect it to reach 60mph in around 7.7 seconds and the quarter-mile timing should be under 16 seconds.

The ProMaster’s V6 engine performs decently on the road. However, when compared to its rivals it easily falls behind both Nissan NV and Ford Transit and only surpasses Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. But we think the new transmission should put ProMaster closer to the Nissan NV than ever before. The Nissan NV turns out to be the quickest accelerating van, while the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the slowest.

How well does the 2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van handle?

When it comes to driving the 2022 ProMaster 2500 Window Van, it feels mediocre mostly as it has its own pros and cons. Such as the steering wheel feels decent but the feedback is poor from the road which doesn't help much and can be confusing for some. On top of that, this is a high roof van so going aggressive on sharp corners can be problematic for some especially if the van is fully loaded.

The absence of an all-wheel-drive system also adds up to the complications as front-wheel drive can't handle every situation, especially in winter. However, the suspension system should ease things up a little bit. As ProMaster can easily eliminate low to medium bumps. So your cargo or passengers should experience a smooth drive.

2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van Braking Performance

This is a full-sized van meant for commercial duties. So naturally, it is going to be used to haul a lot of stuff. Even RAM mentioned that it offers a maximum towing capacity of 6,910 pounds and can haul a payload of 4,680 pounds. So having proper control over it is a must and fortunately, RAM has done exactly that. As ProMaster comes with 11.8 inches front and 11 inches rear brakes which are efficient enough.

These disc brakes come with ABS and hill hold control. Currently, we do not have the 60-0 mph stopping distance number to exactly demonstrate its stopping power. Still, the braking system seems confident and efficient but we must mention that when fully loaded, expect some wobbles while going over rough roads.

The ProMaster shares its weight with Ford Transit but is lighter than Sprinter and heavier than Nissan NV. However NV offers the biggest sized brakes. Still, ProMaster should offer decent control. Sprinter's low curb weight and proven brake technology would allow it to reach a halt in a much shorter distance than its rivals, even if we don't know its rotor dimensions.

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Fuel Economy

9.0/10

The ProMaster’s V6 might not be the fastest on the road but it still seems hungry for fuel. The EPA hasn’t tested the 2022 ProMaster 2500 yet but we think it should offer the same mileage as last year’s model. It was rated at 13 MPG in the city, 18 MPG on the highways, and 15 MPG when combined which is decent for its segment. The 24 gallons fuel tank capacity it offers is pretty good and when combined you get a driving range varying from 312 miles to 432 miles and that is acceptable. If you are thinking about driving from city to city then the decent-sized fuel tank has you covered.

When stacked against its rivals, RAM ProMaster offers a mileage that is decent but falls short against the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit. Moreover, its rivals offer bigger fuel tanks which result in them having better driving range. Having a larger fuel tank is one of the most requested features in vans and the Nissan NV's 28-gallon tank appears to be the top choice.

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Interior

8.0/10

One of RAM ProMaster’s biggest strengths is its interior. Unlike others, it offers a visually attractive interior design that has been updated for 2022, especially the center console. Everything looks bold in grey and as for the material quality, you will find a mixture of hard and soft durable plastic but everything seems decent. The dashboard is symmetrical with a big wide storage tray below and a manually adjustable steering wheel that offers a good range.

Behind that, you will find a gauge cluster with a 3.5-inch digital display within it that can be swapped with a bigger 7-inch one. As for the occupants, power-adjustable bucket seats are available with adequate room. However, buyers will have to pay extra to get second-row seats which is a bummer. It can tow up to 6,910 pounds easily and inside you will find additional storage areas for small items.

From the above table, it is clear that RAM ProMaster offers more room for the occupants than its rivals. Next comes the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which offers plenty of headroom, while the Ford Transit excels when it comes to legroom. However, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers better cargo capacity followed by ProMaster. Both Nissan NV and Ford Transit stay behind. Below are some of the key interior features:

  • Power adjustable front bucket seats
  • Manual tilt and telescopic steering wheel
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Locking glove box
  • Cargo space lights
  • Optional 7-inch digital driver display

What’s there to keep you entertained?

Remember when we said how the center stack inside the cabin has been redesigned? Well, it is because RAM updated the infotainment system. It is powered by Uconnect 5 and comes with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard. The old 5-inch display has been ditched and the new display offers clear graphics with good touch response. If buyers want then an optional 10-inch touchscreen is also available which makes everything better, however, the standard display is adequate.

The system features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual smartphone Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, navigation system, multiple USB ports, and auxiliary support. Amazon Alexa voice assistant works flawlessly. And lastly, a 4-speaker audio system is available which is acceptable and comes with controls on the steering wheel. Below are some of its key infotainment features:

  • 7-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Uconnect 5C NAV
  • Wireless charging
  • Apple CarPlay support
  • Android Auto support
  • Amazon Alexa voice assistant

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Exterior

9.0/10

This is a van we are talking about so yes you are still going to get a boxy-shaped vehicle that focuses more on practicality. But still, if you park most of these different vans, you will see how better-looking ProMaster is. Especially the front which comes with a big wide front bumper and a simple yet elegantly designed silver grille on it. The automatic headlights clearly look good, matching the curves of the windscreen.

You get 16-inch steel wheels, neatly designed fenders, and mirrors with convex spotters. The window van comes with a high roof so on top you get five cab clearance lights. The rest of the body is the same as any other van body but with longer tail lights. Moreover, the rear bumper comes with a step and the 7.7 inches of ground clearance means easy loading and unloading.

Weight wise it is a bit heavier than Sprinter but lighter than Nissan NV. However, dimensions wise it is somewhat similar to both Sprinter and NV. The Ford Transit, on the other hand, comes with a longer body. The lower ground clearance ProMaster comes with an advantage for low entry but can be problematic over bigger bumps. Below are some of its key exterior features:

  • 16-inch steel wheels
  • BSW all-season tires
  • Black manual side mirrors with a convex spotter and turn-signal indicator
  • Fixed rear window with defroster
  • Aero composite halogen headlamps
  • Cab clearance lights

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Safety

7.0/10

Even the 2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van hasn’t been crash-tested by NHTSA and IIHS yet. The RAM loads tons of safety features that should make anyone feel safe and yes for 2022 RAM has updated the safety feature list. You will find stability and traction control, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking system, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring system.

For easy parking a ParkView backup camera with gridlines and front and rear park assist are available. The list of features it comes with is impressive for a van. It even has Traffic sign recognition, a digital rearview mirror, and a drowsy driver detection system. All of this is just to keep the vehicle and its occupants safe. Below are some of its key safety features:

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Forward collision warning with an automatic emergency braking system
  • ParkView rear backup camera
  • Lane departure and lane-keeping assist

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Competition

7.0/10

2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van vs 2021 Mercedes Benz Sprinter

When compared to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, RAM ProMaster comes out faster on the road, offers more room for the occupants, and a level of technology that can easily go against Mercedes. Not to forget about the cheaper price tag which is certainly going to make a difference. The Sprinter, on the other hand, comes with an engine that is more fuel-efficient. It is also lighter which means better driveability.

2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van vs 2021 Nissan NV

When stacked against Nissan NV, ProMaster might be slower on the road but the newly added automatic transmission should be able to get it closer to it than before. Sure NV comes with bigger brakes but it is heavier than the ProMaster which is why it is easier to control on the road. Lastly, ProMaster offers better fuel economy and much better cargo capacity.

2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van vs 2021 Ford Transit

Going against the Ford Transit is tough for the ProMaster, as Transit is a lot faster on the road and offers better driving dynamics. In fact, the engine offers superior fuel economy and braking performance. But ProMaster stands its ground by offering a better level of technology and more room inside the cabin. Lastly, it is also cheaper than Transit.

2022 RAM Promaster 2500 Window Van Final Verdict

The dual nature of ProMaster complicates things. As it comes with a fuel-efficient engine, a spacious cabin with an impressive level of technology, decent hauling capabilities and not to forget the attractive visuals. But it does have its negatives such as the engine quickly falls apart when stacked against its rivals and despite having technology up to its sleeve, the driving experience is mediocre. So if you want something that won't be used for long hauling then you should consider the 2022 RAM ProMaster 2500 Window Van, otherwise, look elsewhere.
