Rolls-Royce doesn’t need an introduction as a brand. It has been the epitome of luxury for decades and will be for years to come. The Cullinan is their vision of an SUV and a very first attempt for Rolls-Royce. Introduced to the world in 2019, the Cullinan is named after a gigantic diamond and is priced just like it. It was created by Rolls-Royce to offer remarkable off-roading traits and sheer elegance in a single package.

The new Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be available in two trim options namely the base Cullinan and Cullinan Black Badge trim. The Black Badge trim offers more power and additional features. For the year 2022, the Cullinan is mostly unchanged and will carry an eye-watering price tag of $335,350. It will face competition from the likes of Bentley Bentayga Speed, Lamborghini Urus, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

We Recommend

We recommend the base Cullinan trim as it offers all the desirable features that would be expected from a Rolls-Royce car. You get access to programmable, adaptive, automatic projector-beam daytime running LED headlamps, 12.3-inch touchscreen display, 18-speaker Fender audio system, satellite radio, HD radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration, heated and massaging front seats, electrically 12-way adjustable front seats, memory settings for front seats, dual-tone leather upholstery and many more features along with tons of customization options with Rolls-Royce Bespoke.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Release Date

Rolls-Royce has not made any official announcement about the launch of the 2022 Cullinan but we expect it to happen in December 2021.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Engine and Performance

8.9/10

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is equipped with a monstrous 6.7L Twin Turbo V12 engine. It is rated at 563 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and the power is sent to all four wheels as standard. Despite its elephantine weight, the Cullinan accelerates with great ease and while doing so, it provides an extremely smooth and quiet ride. The Cullinan Black Badge is equipped with the same engine but produces about 600 hp for better performance. It also gets a retuned suspension and transmission system for a more spirited drive. But we think that the base Cullinan is sufficient for most users. It takes only 5.0 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph and completes a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. If you’re insane enough to haul stuff using a Rolls Royce, then the Cullinan has some impressive towing capacity in store for you. It can tow up to 7257 pounds.

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan could surely be a chauffeur's dream as driving it would be a mesmerizing experience. Just like the 2021 model, It has a dual personality wherein it is a quiet and composed cruiser at a time and when you need the sudden rush of power, it delivers almost instantly. The ride quality for the driver and passengers is also expected to be simply extraordinary as it sits on an adaptive Magic Carpet Ride air suspension system that receives information of the terrain that lies ahead with the help of a front camera and adjusts its setup accordingly. In doing so, the Cullinan floats through the bumps effortlessly without disturbing the zen inside the cabin. The steering is overly light and yet precise. In short, the Cullinan offers the most comfortable ride in its class and truly, nothing comes close to it.

The Cullinan is by far the most expensive luxury SUV among its rivals. The Cullinan is neither the most powerful nor the fastest SUV in the segment yet it offers an unmatched driving experience. The Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus offer identical and heart revving performances, followed by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The 0-60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds and 3.2 seconds for the Bentayga and Urus respectively, is surely a deal-breaker in the SUV segment. The Cayenne does the same in 3.9 seconds.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Fuel Economy

5.8/10

A humongous and stupendously powerful engine along with a 3-ton weight is not exactly a good recipe for higher fuel efficiency. However, if you have enough dough to buy a Rolls, then low fuel mileage shouldn’t be of concern. The Cullinan is rated at 12 MPG in the cities and 20 MPG on the highways. This results in a combined mileage of 14 MPG which is at par with two of its rivals. However, it does slightly better on the highways than both of its competitors.

The Cullinan is fitted with the biggest fuel tank in the segment. It can hold up to 26.4 gallons of fuel which helps it attain a better range than both the Bentagya and the Urus. However, it can’t beat the more fuel-efficient Porsche Cayenne which offers a class-leading range of 403 miles in mixed driving conditions from its 23.7-gallon fuel tank. The Lamborghini Urus loses out in the range battle with just 277 miles in combined driving condition, followed by Bentayga with 315 miles.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Interior

6.4/10

The most exciting and intriguing part of a Rolls-Royce is its interior. All great Rolls-Royce cars are a result of incessant effort and time put into their interiors and the 2022 Cullinan is no different. It can be customized in countless ways which include trim color, accessories, headliner design, wood grade and so much more. The 2022 Cullinan will be based on the outgoing model and will remain unchanged.

It is filled with high-end materials and handcrafted work, a sight to behold. It features soft leather touches of premium quality, lambswool floor mats, high-grade genuine wooden trims all over, and the ever-so-mesmerizing shooting star headliner. The dashboard is elegantly designed and has a simplistic layout. Almost everything can be accessed at the touch of a button. It includes opening and closing of the doors, quad-zone automatic climate control, power controls for seat adjustment, the infamous champagne glasses, and all infotainment functions too.

The front seats have heated and massaging functionality along with memory settings for both driver and passenger seats. The seats feature premium quality dual-tone leather upholstery which has seating comfort like no other. The rear seats feel flat and we would have liked more cushion. Although the interior dimensions are not revealed by RR, we know for a fact that both the rows provide excellent space in terms of headroom, shoulder room, and legroom.

The in-built loading assistant helps in folding the rear seats with the touch of a button. The loading compartment can be raised to create a smooth and usable space for the luggage of different shapes and sizes. The Cullinan’s Immersive seating option offers a glass partition between the rear seats and luggage compartment for ultimate refinement and better sound installation. The tilting and retracting sunroof opens with a single touch of a button and gives a beautiful view of the sky along with improving airiness in the cabin

All the SUVs can seat up to five passengers comfortably. The lack of interior dimensional data makes it difficult to compare these luxury SUVs. However, we believe that the 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be the most luxurious SUV from the inside for sure. Apart from that, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo has the best cargo space. It can hold up to 26.3 cubic feet of luggage compared to 21.8 cu-ft in the Lamborghini Urus, about 19.8 cu-ft in the Cullinan, and 17.0 cu-ft in the Bentayga Speed. Some of the highlights of the interior are:

  • Heated and massaging front seats
  • Memory setting for driver and passenger seats, door mirrors, and steering wheel
  • Heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Electro-chromatic rear-view mirror
  • Dual-tone leather upholstery
  • Alcantara simulated suede ‘Shooting Star’ headliner
  • Heads-up display
  • Keyless entry
  • 12-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Lambswool floor mats

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen center display as a part of its infotainment system. It sits high in the dashboard and comes with several buttons and knobs placed below on the center console which are used to control most of the functions. The system itself is highly intuitive, responsive and also offers a great musical experience.

It comes with many latest gizmos as standard and some optional features like rear-seat 12.0-inch displays for entertainment is a must-have. It gets an 18-speaker Fender audio system and a voice-activated navigation system is available too. For seamless smartphone connectivity and usage, the infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration as well. Some key infotainment features on offer are:

  • AM/FM/HD Radio
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • 12.3-inch central touchscreen display
  • Heads-up display
  • 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot compatibility
  • 2 USB charging ports
  • Android Auto
  • Apple CarPlay
  • 18-speaker Fender audio system
  • Optional rear-seat entertainment

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Exterior

The exterior styling of the 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is expected to be the same as the outgoing model. It is a combination of the signature Rolls-Royce look with an SUV body style. The design hasn’t exactly been appreciated by all as some find it way too similar to other Rolls-Royce cars. It’s not a bad thing but lacks its own individuality. However, the front profile comprises a humongous Pantheon grille with the legendary Spirit of Ecstasy standing proudly on top of the hood. It also comes with a programmable, adaptive, automatic projector beam, daytime running LED headlamps, electrically heated windshield, and of course the long and massive hood which contains a mammoth V-12 engine underneath.

The side profile might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It is characterized by 22-inch 7-spoke light-alloy wheels with unique self-righting wheel centre caps, signature suicide doors, a roof with an express retracting and tilting sunroof, body-colored heated power-adjustable mirrors that are auto-folding and auto-dimming as well. To top it off, the Cullinan features chrome body side molding and black body side moldings to add more to the already imposing personality. The 2022 Cullinan’s ground clearance has been raised by an additional 40mm in order to make it more off-roading compatible. The rear profile of the SUV has a dramatically sloping profile, despite having a pretty straightforward roofline. It comprises smaller LED brake lights than we would have liked, a power liftgate, a subtle lip spoiler, and two big chrome-tipped exhaust outlets.

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan sits on the longest wheelbase of 130-inches. It helps with better high speed stability on the highways. The Cullinan exceeds in exterior dimensions compared to all of its rivals. However, the Bentayga Speed has the most ground clearance of 9.0 inches, followed by the Cayenne Turbo with 7.4-inches and Lamborghini Urus with just 6.2 inches. The Lamborghini Urus is the lightest of the lot which results in more athleticism. Some of the standout exterior features of the Cullinan are:

  • Adaptive LED headlamps
  • LED tail lights
  • Glass roof with power tilting and sliding sunroof
  • Power liftgate
  • Electrically heated windshield
  • Heated, powered and auto-dimming side-view mirrors
  • 22-inch 7-Spoke light-alloy wheels
  • Signature suicide doors
  • Chrome bodyside moldings
  • Rear lip spoiler
  • Dual chrome tipped exhausts.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Safety

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan being a super expensive and low-volume car, both the NHTSA and IIHS have not crash tested it for safety ratings. However, for the exorbitant price one should expect it to be equipped with the latest, most advanced safety and driver-assist technologies. It gets basic safety features like airbags, side collision door beams, vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking system on all the four wheels, etc. While the active safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, night vision assist and some more. Some of the standout safety features of the Cullinan are:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Night vision assist
  • Parking assist
  • Rolls-Royce Emergency assist SOS
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Low tire pressure warning
  • 360-degree surround-view camera system
  • Front and rear parking sensors

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Competition

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan vs 2021 Bentley Bentayga Speed

The Bentley Bentayga Speed is the closest rival to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan as they both are symbols of luxury and belong to the same country. A lot of similarities are seen between the two luxury SUVs but the Bentayga Speed carries a much lesser price tag and also offers better performance than the Cullinan. The hefty price tag of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is only for the privileged few who can afford such jewels but it is worth it as you can customize your Cullinan with the help of the Bespoke team. The Cullinan also comes with many class-leading and modern interior features which the Bentley Bentayga Speed can’t match.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan vs 2022 Lamborghini Urus

The Lamborghini Urus is the most attractive-looking luxury SUV in the segment. Come on, it’s a Lamborghini! It just has to look good. It is not a direct rival to the Cullinan as both attract different audiences. The Urus is more performance-focused while the Cullinan is all about luxury and comfort but deceptive in performance. The Cullinan would be more off-road capable as it offers higher ground clearance. It would also offer better comfort and interior features which the Urus misses on. The choice between these two is solely dependent on your preference and clearly, both these SUVs are best in what they offer.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan vs 2021 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

The 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan beats even the Porsche Cayenne Turbo with its interior appointments. It is definitely the more desirable, comfortable, luxurious, and expensive SUV of the two. The Porsche Cayenne is not a bad vehicle in any regard but can’t match the vast list of desirable features and interior amenities that the Cullinan has on offer. However, the Porsche Cayenne offers better cargo capacity and fuel efficiency than the Cullinan. It is also a slightly more dynamic and corner-loving SUV than the Cullinan.

2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Final Verdict

The new Rolls-Royce Cullinan is as promising as it was during its debut. It remains the epitome of luxury you’ll find in an SUV and that is very unlikely to be outperformed. It features an all-around performance and a superiorly luxurious interior. It was designed to offer maximum possible comfort to its occupants just like all other Rolls-Royce cars but also offer great off-road compatibility. If you’re sitting on a gold mine and have all the money to splurge, then the Cullinan is a no-brainer for an uber-luxurious experience with an SUV-like convenience.
