If you desire a four-door family sedan with a bunch of driver-aid features and a slew of features with an adequately powerful engine, then the Toyota Camry is a pretty decent choice for you. The 2022 Toyota Camry remains largely unchanged from the 2021 model. The Camry Sedan has developed into quite a successful idea over the years, and Toyota seems to have restored it to its former glory, making it as desirable as it once used to be. Toyota made a major change to the Camry in the year 2018 and then made a few minor cosmetic updates for the 2021 model year which will carry forward for the 2022 model year.

The 2021 Toyota Camry came with five trim levels - LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE - in 13 different configurations. There was a slight change in the 2021 Camry's trim lineup as the base L model, which used to come for $24,425, was discontinued for 2021. The midsize sedan offers two engine options across the range - a base 2.5L inline-4 and a more powerful V6 engine and all trims get FWD as standard.

"The Toyota Camry is one of the most trusted names in family sedans. It’s a well-rounded midsize car that’s safe, reliable, and efficient." - Kelley Blue Book

There are no major changes in store for the 2022 Toyota Camry. There are two engine options: a base 2.5L inline-4 and a more powerful 3.5L V6 engine similar to the previous model. The 2022 Toyota Camry comes standard with FWD while AWD is available with both engine options. The Interior of the Camry might not be the most luxurious but it is very comfortable and offers plenty of space.

The 2022 Toyota Camry will continue to be offered in a total of five trims - LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. The price is expected to start around $25,000 for the base model and go all the way up to $36,000 for the high-end trim with the bigger engine.

2022 Toyota Camry Buying Advice

There are plenty of Camry trims to choose from. We would suggest opting for the XSE as it offers an array of features compared to the other trims. It gets major design enhancement along with the sport-tuned suspension. The XSE trim gives you offerings like blind-spot monitoring, leather upholstery, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also offers creature comfort features like heated seats and a panoramic sunroof.

2022 Toyota Camry Features

The 2022 Toyota Camry shall be available in six trim levels- LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. Two engine options comprising four-cylinder and V6 will be on offer. 2022 Toyota Camry Engine and Performance

"The Camry's four-cylinder engine, however, is a bit underwhelming. And despite some sporty styling, the Camry isn't as swift or engaging to drive as some rivals." - Edmunds

Toyota Camry has two engines on offer. The standard engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder engine which is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission together they propel 203-horsepower and 184-pound feet of torque. The bigger engine is a 3.5L V6 engine which compromises fuel economy to give you 301-horsepower and 267-pound feet of torque. AWD is an option with both engines which makes the drive in the Camry exciting and responsive. The steering feels light when maneuvering it through tight spaces and substantially weighted when going at high speeds through sharp corners.

The engine in the Camry is the same as most of the rivals but offers more power than most others. Accord offers more torque, making the acceleration quicker and making the car feel more powerful even with a smaller engine.

2022 Toyota Camry Fuel Economy

6.0/10

Fuel efficiency is the USP of the Camry. It offers the best in class fuel economy with the standard four-cylinder which further increases with the hybrid engine. The standard four-cylinder returns 28 MPG in the city, 39 MPG on the highway, and 32 MPG in combined cycles according to the EPA. The environment-friendly hybrid engine further ups these figures to 51 MPG in the city and 53 MPG on the highway which will reduce your fuel costs further. The powerful V6 is a gas guzzler meaning it consumes more fuel, so the MPG figures dip down to 22 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

Mazda has the biggest fuel tank followed by the Nissan, which offers the best range in class thanks to the combination of a big fuel tank and the excellent MPG figures which are identical to the Camry. The Honda Accord comes in the lead when it comes to the city mpg figures but it is pushed to second place while on the highways.

2022 Toyota Camry Interior

8.0/10

Inside the Camry offers you one of the most spacious cabins in the segment. The most luxurious XLE trim comes with upscale materials compared to the lower trims, as they offer relatively cheap materials creating quite a major difference. The dashboard design is not the best and the two infotainment screens cover most of the center console.

The cargo space is also competitive in the Camry and the standard cargo space on offer is 15.1 cubic feet, which can be increased further thanks to the 60/40 split-folding rear seats. The battery in the hybrid is positioned beneath the rear seats so the consumers do not have to compromise cargo space for better fuel economy.

The front space in the Camry might be slightly smaller than the others, but overall it offers more space in the rear, and also has an adequately spaced trunk. Accord, however, wins this round with ease with better space in the cabin and a relatively large trunk.

2022 Toyota Camry Exterior

7.0/10

The Toyota Camry has received a much-appreciated upgrade to the front fascia which brings in a blacked-out grille, LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The Sedan has received much appreciation for the looks and the 2022 Camry is expected to get a few minor updates which will make it even more aggressive than the previous model.

2022 Toyota Camry Sedan Left Side View

The range-topping XSE trim comes with big 19-inch wheels. Camry is no longer that boring midsize sedan that screams a mid-life crisis and has become a striking-looking car over the years.

Camry is slightly longer than the rest of the cars and is also the heaviest this might be due to the more features on offer as standard which could increase the weight of the car. Mazda has the highest ground clearance which makes it easier to maneuver over bumps and rough roads.

2022 Toyota Camry Safety

7.0/10

"Standard safety features are impressive on the Camry." - Motor Trend

The list of safety features and driver aids is a long one for the Camry, and these come right from the base model of the Camry. NHTSA gives the Camry a five-star safety rating in their test, and IIHS gave it the title of their Top Safety Pick+, further helping it win over the rivals in terms of safety with these excellent scores and ratings.

Apart from the standard safety features like airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, and stability control, Toyota equips the Camry with some driver aid features as well which include:

  • Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Automatic high beams
  • Forward-collision warning system
  • Lane departure warning and Lane-keep Assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

2022 Toyota Camry Competition

8.0/10

2022 Toyota Camry vs 2022 Honda Accord

Accord is considered the arch-rival of the Camry. Accord has sharper steering, a more upscale interior, and a large trunk. Camry offers a more powerful engine and an optional all-wheel-drive system which is rare for the segment which compensates for the lack of performance from the standard engine,

2022 Honda Accord

Accord offers a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder engines and it comes to a choice of personal interest and likings to choose between the two.

2022 Toyota Camry vs 2022 Nissan Altima

Altima is a good car, it offers a larger trunk than the Camry, better and more user-friendly controls in the cabin, comfortable seats, and a smooth ride.

2022 Nissan Altima

However, it fails to match the likes of Camry which offers a more powerful engine, an upscale interior in the higher trims, and with the best in class fuel economy, it becomes a more preferred choice over the Altima for a lot of buyers.

2022 Toyota Camry vs 2022 Mazda Mazda6

Mazda Mazda6 is one of the prettiest looking sedans and it also is the most fun to drive. Camry, on the other hand, might not be the best to drive, but looks just good, and also offers a fuel-efficient hybrid variant, something absent in the Mazda.

2022 Mazda Mazda6

Toyota Camry further offers a more spacious cabin and more features coming right from the base model making it a better choice over the Mazda.

2022 Toyota Camry Final Verdict

The 2022 Camry will not receive many upgrades which seems liable as the Sedan seems to be perfect in almost every way. It comes with a spacious cabin, the upper trims come with upscale materials, a powerful V6 engine with an optional AWD system, in short, there is something in store for everyone and the Camry can help every buyer get what they want, making it one of the desirable sedans.
