The new Toyota Camry Hybrid is going to be a carry-over model of the current generation car. The Toyota Camry has a strong name in the mid-size sedan segment and the popularity has not been without a reason. It offers a good level of comfort and the sense of security you get from the Toyota badge is unmatchable. The biggest reason why people prefer the hybrid models is because of the excellent class-leading fuel economy figures they offer.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Sedan will not see any major change for the 2022 model year. There will be one new trim level in the name of SE Nightshade, that comes with some dark exterior accents in the existing SE trim level. The rivalry in the competition is also with another legendary name in the mid-size sedan segment the Honda Accord Hybrid, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, and Kia K5

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Features

7.5/10

The 2022 Toyota Camry Sedan comes in five trim levels namely LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. The base trim LE starts at an MSRP of $28,405 and comes standard with features like automatic LED headlights, 16-inch steel wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver's seat, 60/40-split folding rear seat, keyless entry for front doors and trunk, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SE trim adds some sportier elements to the LE trim and gets sport-design styling, 18-inch alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and Simulated leather seats with fabric inserts.

The new entrant to the Camry Hybrid lineup is a SE Nightshade trim that features dark treatments at the exterior to give it a distinctive look. The XLE trim levels add chrome exterior accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, power front passenger's seat, rear air-conditioning vents, ambient interior lighting, and a bigger driver information display. The top of the line trim XSE adds 19-inch alloy wheels, lower-profile tires, gloss black grille trim, and metal interior trim to the XLE trim.

We recommend

We recommend going for the base LE trim as it gets all the necessary features as standard with the trim. The base trim also gets many driver assistance features and safety tech as standard with it. If you can stretch your budget a bit, then you can go for SE trim as it also adds a level of sportiness to the trim. The upgrade to a sportier suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels are worth the upgrade if you love driving.

2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Release Date

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan is expected to be released sometime in the fall of 2021.

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Engine and Performance

7.0/10

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan is powered by a 2.5L Inline-4 engine that comes paired with an electric motor. When combined with both motors, the engine produces 208 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and the power is sent to the front wheels. The Camry Hybrid sedan is not designed for those who want a sedan for race tracks, instead, it drives the best when you drive it in a relaxed manner.

The mid-size sedans target buyers who want a comfortable commuter for their daily drives, and the Toyota Camry is a good option for that. The performance is not top-notch or inspiring by any means, but it never feels lacking either. The drivability is also decent as it does not struggle for power in the lower end of the rave band. The electric motor gives a good push at lower rpm and you do not have to wait for the turbo to kick in.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid takes 7.4 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour which is acceptable for the segment. The quarter-mile timing is not bad either and it takes 15.6 seconds to complete the quarter-mile run. Although the performance is good enough, the power delivery is linear and remains constant throughout the rave range. It does not give you pushback on your seats when you get hard on the gas paddle.

The handling is never a problem for a sedan and the Toyota Camry Hybrid is no exception. The handling is predictable and you never get the completely disconnected feel while driving. It does not mean that it offers an engaging drive but it does not give a dead feeling too. The steering wheel is fairly precise and changing lanes is never an issue but you do not get much feedback from the wheels. The ride quality is comfortable for city driving but when you get on the highway, you can feel the bouncy ride that it offers.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan offers decent performance for the competition and the 0 to 60 mph sprint takes 7.4 seconds. The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the fastest car to reach from 0 to 60 mph taking 6.8 seconds. The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid is also marginally better than the Toyota Camry in terms of outright acceleration. The 2022 Kia K5 Sedan is the only sedan in the segment that does not come in a hybrid format. It comes with a gasoline-powered engine only and remains the slowest sedan in the competition.

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Fuel Economy

6.0/10

The fuel economy is the strongest point in the favor of hybrid sedans and that is the key reason why they have become so popular in the market. The Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan takes that to the next level only. It delivers an impressive fuel economy of 51 miles per gallon in the city, 53 miles per gallon on the highway, and a combined fuel economy of 52 miles per gallon.

The fuel economy of the Toyota Camry Hybrid will impress lots of its potential buyers. It gets a decent size 13.2-gallon fuel tank which works well with such an excellent fuel economy. The maximum highway range of over 700 miles is more than enough for what most users expect.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan comes with the best fuel efficiency in its segment. It also dominated the segment in the maximum highway range which is rated at 700 miles. The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sedan comes at second position in terms of overall fuel efficiency. The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Sedan is right behind the Honda Accord Hybrid with a very small margin when it comes to fuel economy figures. The 2022 Kia K5 Sedan has the least fuel-efficient engine in the competition as it does not come with a hybrid powertrain.

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Interior

9.0/10

The interior of the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan remains unchanged compared to the previous year’s model. The Camry Hybrid comes with a comfortable interior for the driver and passengers which is expected in the segment. The front seats are decently spacious and there is no complaint in that regard. The driver gets a very comfortable driving position and the visibility of the road ahead is also good for a sedan. All the driver controls are placed within the reach of the driver which enhances the comfort inside the cabin.

The dashboard design is similar to last year’s model and looks very subtle to the eyes. The dashboard comes in a two-tone color scheme and it also gets some metallic accents on the dash for upper trim levels. The rear seats are also spacious enough for three passengers and the support from the seats is also decent. Although it can accommodate three passengers at the back without much concern, it is best for two passengers only at the back. The cargo area of the Toyota Camry Hybrid is not the best for the class but offers good enough space for family luggage.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes with a spacious cabin that remains comfortable for a family of four. The interior design is not among the best but it is not bad at all. The cabin quality impresses you with a simple and elegant design language. The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid is slightly more spacious than the Camry Hybrid.

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid offers the best legroom for the front passenger but the case becomes exactly opposite in the rear seat department. The same goes for the Kia K5 Sedan as the interior space distribution is almost identical. Standout interior features are:

  • 8 -Way Power Driver and Passenger Seats
  • Tilt And Telescopic Steering Wheel
  • Rear Ventilation Ducts
  • Keyless Ignition
  • Dual-Zone Climate Control
  • Interior Air Filtration

How intuitive is the infotainment system on the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan?

The Toyota Camry Hybrid received a new 7-inch central floating touchscreen display for the infotainment system with the 2021 update. Since the 2022 model year is not going through any change in terms of infotainment or any other features, the infotainment screen will remain the same this year too. You also get an option to equip your Camry Hybrid with an optional 9-inch touchscreen display for infotainment. The infotainment screen feels fairly responsive and reacts well to the touch response. Toyota has come a long way in terms of infotainment display user interface and the screen now feels more user friendly.

The infotainment system also comes with multiple other features to keep you entertained inside the cabin. The infotainment system advanced connectivity options like 4G LTE connectivity. It also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard with the car. The audio is managed via a 9-speaker audio system by JBL that sounds good. Standout infotainment features include:

  • A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • An optional 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • AM/FM Radio
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • SiriusXM 3 months free trial
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 9-speaker JBL audio system

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Exterior

6.0/10

Although the Toyota Camry Hybrid Sedan is not a sporty car when it comes to performance, the exterior styling of the Camry Hybrid looks sporty. The design language of the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid remains similar to the regular gasoline-powered Camry. Still, there are small changes in the overall design that differentiates the hybrid and the gasoline-powered Camry. The exterior styling of the Toyota Camry still stands out from other cars in the segment. The long nose in the front of the car looks striking and appeals to the younger generation.

Unlike the other cars in the segment which follow a conventional and subtle design language, the 2022 Toyota Camry is designed to draw eyes on the road. It gets one of the most head-turning towards it compared to any other car in the segment. There are nice lines and curves running all over the car. Even the rear end of the Camry Hybrid although does not look over-designed, does not look boring at all, and goes well with the overall design language of the Camry Hybrid Sedan very well.

  • Pre-Collision Safety System

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Competition

9.0/10

2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid

The rivalry between the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Accord hybrid is a legendary one. The Camry and Hybrid are great products from two different Japanese automobile giants. When it comes to these two cars, they are very closely matched in terms of various aspects. The Camry Hybrid goes with a bold design language while the Honda Accord plays it subtle. The Accord Hybrid also comes with a slightly better driver engagement compared to the Camry Hybrid. You can not go wrong with any of these two sedans, as they are both excellent products.

2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has also been in the market for a long time now. The Sonata Hybrid ticks many boxes and makes a wonderful package for the price. The cabin is also well laid out and feels slightly more premium. The performance of the Sonata Hybrid is better than that of the Camry Hybrid, even though the engine produces less power in the Sonata Hybrid. Toyota Camry Hybrid shines when it comes to fuel efficiency and the reliability of the Toyota Camry is also better than the Hyundai Sonata.

2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. 2022 Kia K5 Sedan

The Kia K5 Sedan has been performing well in the American market for the package it offers. It also happens to be the least expensive sedan in the competition. The Kia K5 is the slowest car in the competition but offers a good quality cabin. When compared to the Camry Hybrid, it fails to keep up with the Camry in almost every aspect. The K5 does not come with any Hybrid powertrain which means the fuel economy is half of what Camry Hybrid offers. The Toyota Camry Hybrid comes out as a better package between the two.

2022 Toyota Camry hybrid Sedan Final Verdict

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a legendary name around the world in the mid-size sedan market. It offers an impressive fuel efficiency for the call and the overall cabin ambiance is also impressive. The reliability of Toyota is hard to match by any other brand in any of the segments and goes the same with the Camry Hybrid. Safety is also a strong point that favors the car. To conclude everything, the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid deserves every penny that you will be paying for it.
