The 2022 Toyota Corolla sees some significant change in its exterior design and it also pays heed to the customer reviews that claim a sluggish engine. The 2022 Corolla sees a change in its powertrain and now offers two options to go with, a 1.8L 4-cylinder turbo engine, and a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine. The 2022 model year is offered in eight trims and a unique hybrid trim, totalling nine trims, priced at an MSRP range of $20,025-$28,310.

On the inside, Corolla has always been at its top game, it is probably the best in the segment. However, this year Toyota has decided to crunch the interior dimensions a little. Even the cargo space offered is lesser than before, though the infotainment system remains the same. On the bright side, the 2022 Toyota Corolla is a frugal vehicle and delivers a good range for its gas mileage.

2022 Toyota Corolla Engine and Performance

"The Corolla is offered in two "flavors," one with a 139-horsepower inline-4 aimed at fuel economy and another with an upsized, 169-hp inline-4 paired to a sport-tuned suspension." - The Car Connection

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Sedan is not going to be an engaging car to drive by any means. Priced at $20,025, there are two available power units offered by the manufacturer. This includes a lower-powered 1.8L four-cylinder engine that produces a very modest 121 horsepower and a slightly better powertrain that cranks out 169 horsepower with the 2L inline-4 engine.

However, the latter isn’t too engaging to drive either. The good thing is the sportier trims like the SE and XSE have a stiffer suspension to offer which makes the car feel a tad bit more responsive. Apart from the engine performance, the car is a decent commuter. The ride and handling aren’t too bad when it comes to tougher terrains and the steering is also quite crisp. However, the only thing that is disappointing in the vehicle is the unavailability of an AWD, which feels very necessary at times.

2022 Toyota Corolla Sedan in acceleration mode

The transmission that is paired to the engine is a CVT which is partly the reason why the car doesn't feel as agile as compared to the rivals. Speaking of agility, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Sedan touches the 60 mph mark in 7.8 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile distance in 15.5 seconds. These figures are great by any means and only feel average when actually driven.

2022 Toyota Corolla Fuel Economy

The vehicle comes with a slightly lower-powered engine, which creates room for efficiency to grow. 2022 Toyota Corolla Exterior

The exterior design of the Toyota Corolla Sedan is more interesting than the rivals. With a more funky front facia, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Sedan sees significant changes from its 2022 model.  Speaking of exterior dimensions, the Corolla is taller than most vehicles in the segment and has lower ground clearance as well.
