2017 Toyota Prius v Wagon Engine

5.4/10

The car utilities an inline 4 cylinder motor paired to a couple of electric motors to produce a combined 98 hp and 105 lb ft torque. The car certainly feels underpowered most of the times and especially when going uphill while carrying a modest load.

In comparison, the Prius V is the most underpowered car in the segment by some distance. The Ford C Max is the most powerful segment in the car with a 188 hp and 129 lb-ft torque.

Acceleration

Again, acceleration is not the Prius strongest point. The acceleration feels lethargic and uninspiring most of the times. Expecting anything from the car while on any other mode than the power mode is sheer waste of expectations. The acceleration department is where the Prius could've used a lot of more effort.

There is no data available for the Prius V but the fastest car in the segment is the Ford C max with a 0-60 mph timing of 7.9 sec. The 2nd is line is the Hyundai Ioniq with a timing of 8.1 seconds.

Braking

Brakes on the Toyota Prius V is one of the very few things that you can complain about. They offer optimum efficiency which may be partly due to the already low speeds that the car will mostly travel on.

In comparison to rivals, the Prius p is able to stop from 60 mph in under 122 feet which puts it at the top with the Lexus CT 200h.

Seats and Comfort

The seats in the Prius V are spacious and comfortable. The padding and thigh support couldnt been better but it certainly is not a reason to complain. Both the front and the rear legroom is enough to keep the passengers satisfied. However, shoulder room on the rear can be a little bothersome when there are 5 passengers in the car.

2017 Toyota Prius v Wagon Competition

Ford C-Max Hybrid Vs Toyota Prius V

The Ford C-Max hybrid is one the flagship hybrid people mover by Ford. The car features an attractive design that makes it look more like an SUV than a station wagon. When it comes to power, the C-Max demolishes its competition. As a matter of fact, it is even cheaper than most of car in the segment.

However, niggles such an unfavorable loading angle and tailgate alignment are surely a letdown. But all in all, it is a fine vehicle to own.

Hyundai Ioniq Vs Toyota Prius V

The Hyundai Ioniq has been giving tough competition to the entire Prius lineup since a while now and for good reason. The car offers better styling and interior quality than the Prius. When it comes to rideability, the car feels much better than the Prius V with a more responsive and precise feel to the steering wheel.

However, if a more luggage and passenger friendly EV is what you are after, the Prius V is still a better option.

Lexus CT 200h Vs Toyota Prius V

The Lexus CT 200h is more of a luxury sedan than a people mover. The car features contemporary Lexus design that makes it look much better than all the rivals in the segment. The interior quality and overall layout is also superior to what the rivals have to offer.

However, all the extra goodies do their bit to bump up the price and put it much higher than the competition. But, the Prius V is still a more family friendly car than the CT 200h will ever be,

2017 Toyota Prius v Wagon Final Verdict

The Toyota Prius V is a very niche solution for a very niche problem. Sure, there are a lot of EVs and hybrids out there that are much better looking and offer a more complete ride than the Prius V. But, what the Prius V offers is a all the benefits of a normal Prius sedan but with added benefit of passengers and cargo space big enough to fit a small house in it.
