Earlier known for making simple vehicles like Corolla and Camry, the Japanese manufacturer was also known to make the Land Cruiser, an off-road masterpiece that is close to our hearts to the date. With this experience and confidence to excel in the pickup truck class, Toyota launched the Tacoma in 1995. Beginning its third generation from 2015 and a very special trim added to the lineup, Toyota launched the TRD Pro trim for Tacoma. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is a serious off-roader available only in a double cab configuration. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is designed for off-roading and it’s also the best trip of the Tacoma series. It comes with the rock-solid Toyota’s reliability and customer services. The General Motor twins of Chevrolet and GMC are equipped with the same powertrain but the Canyon has a negligible advantage in terms of acceleration. The Ford Ranger has the least power but the best torque with a 4-cylinder engine and it performs the second-best in the class. The Tacoma might not be the fastest of all but it provides enough acceleration along with the best top speed in the class.

How well does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Double Cab handle?

Toyota has given Tacoma one of the best independent suspension systems in the market. With a coil spring double-wishbone front suspension and a leaf spring, rear suspension on the rear axle, the ability of off-roading is made possible by gas-pressurized 2.5-inch FOX coil-over dampers with remote reservoirs are equipped on all four wheels and tuned to perfection by the TRD department. This maniac setup does a great job to keep the cabin as stable and sturdy as possible and there is very little road noise that can actually be heard inside the cabin.

Talking about steering, the automaker uses a general electric power-assisted rack and pinion mechanism that gives the Tacoma a turning circle diameter of 40.7 feet which is acceptable for a midsize truck. The steering wheel, like in any other vehicle, is highly responsive and precise at high speeds but driving the truck at lower speeds and the effort needed is a bit more than expected, probably because of the heavy suspension components and beefy tires.

The Tacoma has a 4-wheel vented disc braking system along with all the important and advanced electro-mechanical systems like ABS, EBD, brake assist, etc. that makes braking easier, safer, and more efficient. The midsize truck is supposed to stop to a standstill, accelerating from 60 MPH in a distance of around 130 feet which is pretty impressive.

The Canyon and Tacoma are way lighter than the other two competitors, however, with the least weight and bigger brake rotors, the GMC marks the best braking while the Tacoma closes in just 3 feet after. The Ranger is equipped with comparatively good-sized brake rotors but it is nearly a hundred pounds heavier whereas Colorado is the heaviest of all with the biggest brakes in the class, the Chevy’s truck brakes pretty well considering the 70 MPH to 0 range for its rivals.

Because the Ranger with Tremor package has consistent MPG figures with the smallest fuel tank, it gets the least range. On the other hand, the rest of the competition has almost the same capacity of fuel but the Tacoma has the most out of it with some good MPG numbers while the Canyon gives the best highway MPG, other figures are not as good as the Japanese truck whereas Colorado has the least MPG numbers and so, it does not have a range as good as the others.

The Japanese midsize truck has a well-decorated cabin with a rugged and functional styling on the inside. The cabin is made mostly out of soft-touch plastic with a few dusky metallic inserts on the dashboard whereas the center console sits at a good height and has a neat overall layout. The front center armrest is well-cushioned as well as a rubber-like material on the door trim keeps the arms firm while getting adventures done. Available in four different colors, the midsize pickup truck from Toyota looks simple but rugged enough; certainly not overdone. Upfront, the Toyota Tacoma has a very distinctive design than the rest of the rivals. Starting with the front, the LED headlights are placed inside the rectangular-shaped DRLs along with illuminated TRD lettering that is particularly crafted for this trim. Also, there are special LED fog lights designed and supplied by Rigid Industries that sit inside a black finished plastic trim in the front bumper. The Ford Ranger is not as long, wide, or as tall as the others and also has a shorter wheelbase which makes it a perfect compact truck that can be easily driven on congested city roads.
