It is estimated to be priced between $36,000 to $47,000, excluding the TRD and CrewMax models. It is also expected to deliver better MPG ratings and performance than its predecessor, courtesy of downsizing, turbocharging and hybridization of the powertrain.

The trim line up is expected to remain unchanged with the Platinum and 1794 Edition being reserved for CrewMax models. “With a hybrid powertrain, butch design, new rear suspension and tons of cabin tech, the 2022 Tundra is a massive improvement over its predecessor.”- RoadShow by CNET

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is revamped from the mechanical side of things as well. The elimination of leaf spring setup to make place for rear multi-link rear suspension setup improves ride comfort, stability and overall handling. It also helps with an improved 12,000 pounds of towing capacity. The front gets a new double wishbone suspension setup for improved durability and driving performance. The cargo bed length varies between 6.5-feet and 8.1-feet for the Double Cab models.

2022 Toyota Tundra Towing

The downsized engines are more powerful and better than its V8 predecessor. The 3.5L V6 engines are mated to a modern and capable drivetrain for enhanced performance. The new 10-speed transmission comes with a sequential shift mode, uphill/downhill shift logic and Tow/Haul driving modes. The base engine produces nearly 389 hp while the base SR trim gets access to only 348 horses. The hybrid version gets a motor generator support for instant power boost and gives a quiet ride in low speed EV mode.

2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Buying Advice

8.0/10

As of now the full list of trim-specific features are not available with us. So, we cannot comment on the best trim that would fit the majority of the prospective buyers in terms of value and amenities. However, going by our 2021 review, we would recommend the SR5 trim as it offers 8-inch touchscreen display, automatic limited slip differential, fog lamps, heated outside power mirrors, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay with Alexa compatibility and much more for its asking price.

2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Features

8.5/10

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Double cab will be available in four trims: SR, SR5, Limited and TRD Pro. The prices are expected to start at a MSRP of $36,000 and go up to $47,000. The TRD Pro is more off-road and performance focussed, deserving a separate review. The SR trim is expected to be offered in RWD configuration only while losing out on 41 horsepower compared to other trims. On other trims AWD configuration and hybrid powertrain will be optional. All the trims of the 2022 Tundra will offer many creature comforts along with an all new multimedia system featuring over-the-air updates too.

*Expected

The 2022 Toyota Tundra will be available at the dealerships by December 2021 and more optional packages/accessories will be available by March 2022. We expect it to be a capable truck with a host of new available features like panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel and much more. It will also offer additional towing aids, bespoke off-road features and a cargo bed in different sizes of 6.5 feet and 8.1-feet for the Double Cab version. With the new updates and styling, the 2022 Tundra definitely has what it takes to be a pickup truck boss.

2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Engine and Performance

9.0/10

“Gone is the V-8, leaving the ancient Sequoia as the only remaining V-8-powered Toyota in the U.S. All Tundras are now powered by a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.”- Car and Driver

The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra will be available with two different engine options. The base 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine produces 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. While the more powerful 3.5L V6 twin turbo engine coupled with a motor generator and a clutch located within the bell housing between the engine and transmission produces 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of monstrous torque together.

2022 Toyota Tundra Engine Bay

The power figures are definitely more amusing as compared to its predecessor. Both the powertrains will be coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission with a sequential shift mode, Tow/Haul driving modes and uphill/downhill shift logic for a more spirited and controlled driving experience. The SR trim might get access to only a detuned V6 producing 348 hp only. The hybrid powertrain will get its juice from a 288-V sealed Nickel-Hydride battery located under the rear seats.

2022 Toyota Tundra Off-Roading

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is an all new truck and gets an all new chassis. A newly designed and developed double wishbone suspension is used in the front and rear leaf springs are replaced by new multi-link suspension for enhanced ride comfort, handling and performance. So, we expect the handling to be more car-like and better than its predecessor. The new body-on-frame chassis and cargo bed design is coupled with a powerful engine for a superior 12,000 pounds and 1,940 pounds of towing and payload capacity respectively.

With the new powertrain and drivetrain, the 2022 Tundra clearly smashes the competition with better power and torque figures. The Sierra and the Silverado are set to drop the 4.3L V6 for 2.7L Turbo Inline 4 for the 2022 model year. This is likely to improve performance figures on the charts. The Ford F-150 comes with a slew of 7 different powertrain options and the base 3.3L V6 still doesn't feel underpowered. Thanks to its new V6, the Tundra might shoot to the top of the class in terms of performance.

All trucks in the competition offer similar fuel economy. However, the difference lies in their range. Thanks to its large 26.4-gallon fuel tank, Tundra offers the maximum driving range. The Silverado 1500 and the Sierra 1500 post similar fuel economy and range as they come equipped with the same engine and fuel tank. The Ford F-150 offers the least range, courtesy of its smaller fuel tank.

2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Interior

9.0/10

“Inside, the Tundra's design is definitely function over form.”- RoadShow by CNET

The interior of the 2022 Toyota Tundra will be more sophisticated and offer many creature comforts. It will accommodate up to five or six passengers, depending upon your choice of configuration. As per Toyota’s claims, the interior vertical layout was dropped off for a horizontal layout to allow the instrument console and center stack to integrate together for a more blending design. The cabin will see a usage of more premium materials in high contact areas like doors, pads across the dashboard and central armrests. The steering wheel gets mounted controls for better ergonomics.

2022 Toyota Tundra Interior

The seats are expected to offer superior comfort. Some higher trims will also get climate controlled front seats and a heated steering wheel. Some features like panoramic moonroof, leather upholstery and soft touch interior trim will be optional or reserved for higher trims. It will also get a rear vertical power window for easy access to your gear in the cabin from the cargo bed. The cargo capacity is expected to increase as compared to its predecessor
