Volkswagen is hoping to build on the growing demand for SUVs in the market. The weapon of choice for Volkswagen is its all-new 2020 Tiguan. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan comes in a total of 10 Trims which includes both AWD and front-wheel drive configurations. 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

It gets a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine as the common powertrain across the ten trim line-up and is priced at an MSRP range of $24,295-$38,895. With average interiors and fine cargo space, it faces rivalry from competitors such as the 2020 Kia Sorento, the 2020 Nissan Rogue, and the 2020 Mazda CX-5.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The Tiguan has always been one of the top preferences for customers around the world who wanted a tough, rugged SUV that can do it all and be not heavy on the pocket. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan aims to build on the same reputation with an updated features list and subtle changes. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 6 trims but gets only a single powertrain, a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration and as a 5/8 seater configuration, the Tiguan gets a good set of features to match the rising competition from the segment. It faces a rift with competitors such as the 2020 Kia Sorento, the 2020 Nissan Rogue, and the 2020 Mazda CX-5.

Customers have an option to choose among the 10 Trims depending on whether they want an AWD setup or a Front Wheel Drive Setup. All the trims come equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine as the common powertrain.

The SEL Premium Trim packs in a lot of Premium Features with itself while the R-Line adds Sportiness to the overall design of the Tiguan. The 7 Seater Configurations are available only in the FWD trim and all trims of the Tiguan come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SEL trim offers a lot of Convenience Features for its price and would suit perfect most people, who wouldn't want the best Lighting Tech or Audio System. For People wanting a Tech Laden SUV, the SEL Premium trim will fit the bill well.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Engine and Performance

The engine delivers a generally flaccid response when you hit the gas -Cars.USNews.com

Engine and Transmission of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Since its facelift in 2020, VW has persisted with its famed 2.0L Turbocharged Stratified Injection (TSI) Intercooled motor that generates 184hp and 221ft-lbs of Torque. The Motor is very refined and doesn't feel stressed even when pushed to the limits. The TSI motor generates class-leading Torque while the power Figure ranks among the best in the segment.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Engine

We particularly like the 4 Motion AWD technology offered in the Tiguan that makes it a Capable Off-Roader. The 4 Motion-equipped Tiguans however tradeoff their Off-Road Credentials with Performance as the heft of the 4WD system reduces the overall Performance.

Transmission duties are performed by an 8 Speed Automatic Transmission that comes with a Tip Tronic functionality. The transmission is smooth in operation but the Turbo Lag from the 2.0L motor, somewhat makes the Transmission a bit Sluggish to respond at times.

Acceleration of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

As with the case of any Turbocharged Motor in the World, the Volkswagen Tiguan isn't the fastest to take off the line. This is because of 2 simple reasons. Firstly, the Turbocharger unit starts providing its Boost once the Motor revs past 1600 RPM before which, it offers a lot of Turbo Lag.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Acceleration

Secondly, the Tiguan's weight doesn't make the SUV feel agile or eager to respond to any throttle inputs as quickly as one would expect from an SUV of this class.

In terms of competition, we have the 0-60 mph and quarter-mile timings of only a couple of cars. With the given information it seemed quite obvious that the more powerful KIA Sorrento would be faster than the 2020 Mazda CX-5. While the Mazda takes 8.7 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph the Kia Sorento takes only 7.3 seconds.

Ride and Handling of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan comes standard with front-wheel drive while the 4Motion all-wheel drive is available in all trims as an option except for the top 2 trims where it is standard. The 4motion AWD drastically improves performance on wet road conditions or on roads "not taken". The Ride is comfortable courtesy of a good suspension tuning from Volkswagen while the road noise and exterior noise are very well contained. There is a little amount of body roll when the Tiguan is made to tackle corners fast but this is a feature, exhibited by other SUVs of the segment as well.

Braking of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

The Brakes of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan offer good stopping power and do well to make the Beefy SUV come to a halt in very little time.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Wheel

When it comes to brake pedal feel, however, we feel that the pedals feel a tad bit softer as compared to other Volkswagen Cars but they do the job well in most conditions.

Tiguan but considering the numbers of last year (134Ft), we feel that the Tiguan will have similar timings. The Honda CR-V with its rugged construction has the best feel and performance from the Brakes while the Mazda ranks first from the bottom.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Fuel Economy

"The 2020 Tiguan with front-wheel drive earns an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway." - Cars.USnews

While the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan offers Class-Leading Torque and Power, the downside is that all this performance comes at the price of gas MPG. The thirsty engine and the hefty weight of the Tiguan can be held responsible for the "Ordinary" fuel economy figures and the low fuel tank capacity doesn't help the Tiguan's cause as well.

The Nissan Rogue offers the best fuel economy in the Segment but it compromises on overall performance. The Subaru Forester has the Best range courtesy of its good mileage and a decent tank capacity.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Interior

"The Tiguan's interior is classically Volkswagen, which is to say that it is simple and functional but not particularly stylish or rich" - Caranddriver

Ergonomics and Comfort of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

The Cabin inside the Volkswagen Tiguan has to rank among the best in class in terms of build quality. All buttons have been properly placed while there are no inconsistencies in design or panel gaps. The Volkswagen Tiguan, despite its seemingly compact-looking dimensions, offers a good amount of space inside for passengers.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Seating

There is a good amount of legroom and shoulder room while the headroom will be adequate for most passengers except the taller ones. The second row in the Tiguan is particularly suited for Long Rides as the space offered is immense to stretch your legs or relax your muscles.

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a plethora of features, to keep you entertained on your long weekend drives or office commutes. The Infotainment System screen comes in two sizes namely a 6.5" and an 8" unit depending on the trim you choose. The Unit is extremely simple to use, gives good feedback to user inputs, and offers a Lag-Free experience.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Exterior

Exterior Dimensions of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

The Exterior Design of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV won't win any Fashion Contests or Style Awards. That being said, the Tiguan does look Handsome from all angles with its Precise Lines and well put together body. There are no panel gaps and Inconsistencies in the design of the exterior and the Tiguan has to be one of the best build SUVs in the segment.

2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Side View

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan on sale in the US today has a good road presence courtesy of its dimensions. The SUV doesn't look compact from any dimension and this translates into good interior space for the passengers and the Cargo Area.
