Detailed Review

You all may know about the Tuoareg, the VW SUV aimed to compete with the Mercedes and Audi. Now, after the success of the car, VW is here again with a cheaper SUV looking set to compete with the lower rung of SUV's, with the likes of the Mazda CX-5, the Honda CR-V and the Ford escape S, with the same engine specs as that of the Touareg.

Starting with a price of around $24,500, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is at par in terms of price with its rivals, and even houses a smaller 2.0 liter engine, but this engine generates figures which are impeccable for such a small engine, and brings the others to shame.

The VW has always been known for its drive quality along with its premium interiors and the Tiguan doesn't dissapoint in this regard either.

We Recommend

If you want to experience a true SUV drive, the sport mode is the best and the most practical pick amongst the variants. It has got climate control and daytime running lights among other features as standard.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Engine

7.5/10
"The six-speed automatic is well-behaved and smooth. Response in Normal mode is slightly sluggish since it takes the car some time to realize you want power but in Sport mode, the Tiguan becomes a more willing partner. -Motor Trend"

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is powered by a 2.0 Liter DOHC turbocharged Engine at produces 200 hp of power and 207 lb-ft of torque, which provides rear wheel drive with 6 speed automatic transmission as standard.

The starting of this car can be a bit jarring and gives best results when run on gasoline.

Acceleration

This Volkswagen does pretty well in this regard where a VW is not always known to be the best. The Tiguan takes 8.3 seconds to cover 60 mph. Which is easily the best.

Ride and Handling

As the case with all Volkswagen, this is where the car is a treat to drive. The highway drive is especially a worthy mention as it is a different experience altogether.

The car is agile around the corners too and makes the Driver very comfortable especially while driving at high speeds on the highway.

Braking

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV braking figures are not yet known. But it is definitely expected of it tp be of the highest quality considering the acceleration it has.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Competition

Honda CR-V LX vs Volkswagen Tiguan

The fight between the Volkswagen and the Honda goes right down to the wire. They are almost equally priced along with a good engine output. The fuel economy and trunk capacity is where the Honda is a clear winner.

However, again like in the case of the Mazda, the Volkswagen does well better in all the necessary regards of an SUV with unmatchable towing capacity and an engine output beyond comparison.

Mazda CX-5 Sport vs Volkswagen Tiguan

The Mazda does have a better trunk and space inside, these features are not that important for an SUV and this is where the VW makes its presence felt with a much better power output, along with a muscular built and a better acceleration.

With a better interior quality too, the Mazda is actually no match to the much more stylish VW Tiguan.

Ford Escape S vs Volkswagen Tiguan

The Ford is the one which genuinely matches the VW in many regards. The space inside the Ford is much better. The braking is better too. The trunk capacity is way too much for the VW too.

However, the Tiguan has better acceleration, along with classy interiors and a better built. So this comparison does end even stevens among both the cars.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Final Verdict

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is a serious SUV and does almost everything an SUV is desired for. And is actually a better bet than the Mazda CX-5 and the Honda CR-V.

However, the Ford Escape does give the VW a real run for their money. While the Ford does have better physical aspects and a better fuel economy, the Tiguan has better acceleration with an expected braking. It also has a much better interior quality with a beautifully laid out dashboard. It does have a much better feel to it too.

So, a typical muscular SUV along with classy interiors would be the Volkswagen Tiguan, while a technical and more profound pick would be the Ford Escape S.
